You Will Not Want To Leave

There are not enough positive things to describe our stay at Betty's house in June. The house was beautiful inside and out.We loved the wood construction and stone chimney. We have rented homes in the past, and Betty has gone above and beyond what any other home renter has provided. She completely spoils you! The bathrooms welcome you with toothpaste and toothbrushes. The pantry was stocked. There are two types of coffee makers, with coffee provided for both! There are no starter rolls of toilet paper or paper towels-Betty has the place stocked.During our stay,I learned how inferior my appliances were according to my children-everything was better at Miss Betty's:the washing machine, the dryer, the toaster, the vacuum.Miss Betty has a nicer shower curtain, shower head, better smelling candles, better laundry detergent, and fabric softener. The children were besides themselves with TV's in their bedrooms, with all the channels! The "apartment" in the basement is like a whole other house! The bed in the master is a sleep number bed!The garden was so much fun to watch grow overnight.I had never seen asparagus grow out of the ground before.I had no idea radishes were supposed to have a taste! They never do coming out of a bag o'salad.Admittedly,I am not a bird person, but I did feel a great responsibility to take care of them.I enjoyed seeing how much they ate in a day.I would marvel how the squirrels and chipmunks would get up to the feeders before shooing them away.Watering the plants was fun as well.If you haven't seen the pattern, they too were nicer at Miss Betty's.Betty has maps, visitor guides, and brochures available. The location of the house is great-minutes from NH. Mt Washington is not far.Santa's Village was the best time I had at an amusement park.Stowe is a slightly longer drive. We were also very content to sit on the back deck and marvel at the gorgeous view before us of the mountains, any time of day.At night we enjoyed building a fire at the fire pit.The wood is already there!Betty was like another member of our family. We wrote her almost every day letting her know how much we loved it there. She was always quick to respond, even in the months before we arrived. My oldest wants to move there. He wants to buy Betty's house. He wants to spend Christmas there. We can assure you,if you rent this awesome house, you will fall in love with it as well.Maybe that is why I waited so long to write my review.I didn't want to share this treasure, and selfishly keep it for myself!

Peace, beauty, and a quiet place to work

5 of 5
This is our second stay at the lake front house on Neal Pond, and we'll be coming back. I am a software engineer and normally work remotely from my home. Home can be anywhere, so all I need is solid internet service. It's hard to find a rental surrounded by such beauty, yet with DSL service so that I could escape the New York City heat and get my work done. If we lose power during a storm, it's usually back on shortly thereafter. This house has everything we need. There is a washing machine, dryer and a dishwasher, a fully equipped kitchen, a fire pit, propane grill, and picnic table. Every day after finishing work, we grilled our dinner and ate outside. Then my wife and I would do a row around the pond before sitting outside by the campfire and watching the sun set behind the hills. The bass jumped in the pond, the frogs croaked, and the loons and ducks swam by. Friendly neighbors would say hello or join us. My wife likes to bake and cook, so another bonus was a Shaw's supermarket just 15 minutes away in Lancaster, NH. We saw an excellent show at the Weathervane theatre, Circus Smirkus in St Johnsbury, a classical music concert in Bethlehem NH, toured the Great North Woods of New Hampshire, and drove the back roads of Vermont looking for moose (we have yet to spot one). We went to Canada one evening for a delicious French dinner. The house is clean and everything works. The owner or his family promptly took care of any small issue or question we had. Would we recommend this rental? Definitely! But don't come when we want to!
