Perfect!

5 of 5
This is truly Our Home Away from Home! Our family stayed at Donna's place in May while attending a family funeral in southern Vermont. The lovely ease of the place, the spacious comfort and opportunity to stay there with extended family helped heal the reason for the visit, so much so that when we had a week's vacation in September, we headed back to Rockingham- to Donna's house! I've been visiting Vermont for twenty years, staying at my in-laws homes or bed and breakfasts or hotels. Nothing has made me fall in love with Vermont like staying here. The post and beam home, solid and warm, the heating stove in the living room, the quiet solitude. The dining room table is perfect for family games, but I also sat and drew with soft pastels. My daughter danced in the grass and made beautiful videos with the green hills as her backdrop. (The view from the front windows is hilly!) My son walked in the woods behind the home, took photos of dozens of types of mushrooms and hunted for salamanders. My husband panned for gold in the river (long story.) The beds are comfy, the linens soft. Everything you need in the kitchen is where you think should be. It's a fun kitchen to cook in. (It even has lovely pottery to serve in and a big wooden salad bowl! Perfect!) The solid wooden front door feels protective and we always kid around about bears not getting through that thing! The washer and dryer are sure handy! We love being able to bring our little Shih Tzu with us, and he was so happy there rather than at a kennel! At night, in the right season, the sweetest tree frogs perch at the dining room windows waiting for their dinner to be attracted to the lights inside. We love this place. We want this place. We can't wait to get back to this place. Donna is available (by phone) and attentive to all needs! Cell service at the house is better than I expected and better than many areas I visit in Vermont. Bellows Falls, Grafton and Saxton's River, wonderful little towns. This is a great choice for getting away!!

Beautiful home in a GREAT location

5 of 5
The house is even nicer in person. Everything is new and clean and the bathrooms are gorgeous. We loved every minute of staying here. The lawn is big and great for games like frisbee, the fire pit is perfect and they left a shed full of wood for us to use. Paper towels, TP, bath towels, sheets, everything was provided and that made it SOO easy! From the dock, the lake isn't really all that swimable (shallow water with lillypads and mud) but there is a floating dock right off the dock (not sure if that belongs to the house or not) and there is a public beach down the road in the state park. There is also a main road across the lake (which is narrow at that part) from the house which we were surprised by, but it really didn't bother us ONE BIT! There was a kayak and a canoe that we took out and paddled around the lake which was great fun! For breakfast, try Cafe deLight (skip the Hatchery). Make sure you go to Buttermilk Falls (cold water but fun!) We had a blast and would ABSOLUTELY rent again. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!

Castle on a Cloud!

5 of 5
We rented the "Grahall Castle" for a week in the summer for a family reunion; ages 88 to 14. Based on the photos and the renters' reviews our expectations were high. To say the house far exceeded our expectations would be an understatement. The house is a marvel, inside and out! It is obvious that a great deal of thought and love went into the design. There was plenty of room for everyone; bedrooms and bathrooms. Although the house is modern, the gathering rooms still had a warm cozy feel to them with big comfortable furniture; the library was a personal favorite. The views from the decks were spectacular, green mountains as far as the eye could see. The huge stone patio in front of the house was a great place to relax and survey the grounds and ponds. There is even a stone amphitheater in the back of the house! We had a magnificent stay and left with great memories. We will certainly return.
