WONDERFUL VISIT

What a neat spot! We were so happy to stay at the Diner! Perfectly located for excursions. Peaceful and quiet. Sharply done, clean, and comfortable. Thank you for accommodating us. We hope to visit again one day!

PERFECT SERENITY!

5 of 5
My husband and I had the opportunity to stay for 5 days/4 nights in this perfect get-a-way. Home has all the amenities we could ask for. Spent the days fishing (my Bass was bigger than his!) by rented pontoon, and lazily motored around Lake Catherine; very beautiful. At night we hung out on the deck, grilled our catch, and lounged in the hot tub over looking the lake. The home is located about 10 minutes from town, full of wonderful little shops, and a well stocked grocery store. There were produce vendors set up in the street during our visit and we picked up some wonderful tomatoes, cukes and squash. Looking forward to our return visit in August 2014!

BELIEVE IT, IT'S A NICE AS IT LOOKS.

When I saw the photos of the cottage on this website, especially it's location right on the lake, I thought, "This is just what we are looking for." The cottage is exactly as described and shown in the extensive photos. The lakeside cottage is designed to maximize the breezes and views of lovely Lake St. Catherine. It has a wonderful mix of up-to-date amenities (powerful gas stove, stainless steel refrigerator, etc.) with a relaxed, Vermont lake cottage feeling. There are thoughtful touches throughout the home such as an iPod/iPhone dock player in the living room that fills the downstairs with music. We used the BluRay player to watch DVDs on the large flat screen TV in the evenings. We had beautiful weather and some pretty warm days (around 90 degrees), but the house felt comfortable thanks to the ceiling fan in the loft bedroom plus all the windows on both floors. This end of the lake seems especially quiet. Even the motor boats with skiers came by at a reasonable speed so it just sounds like summer, especially when their waves hit the shore. The cottage is near the end of a dead-end road so there is very little car traffic here. Just a sense of tranquility and privacy in a well-maintained home. The surrounding area is filled with Vermont beauty -- farms, rolling hills, rivers, and lakes. We enjoyed driving to the various surrounding villages taking the opportunity to pick up raspberries and corn from local farmers. A surprising find was the Slate Valley Museum in Granville, NY. A very enthusiastic and knowledgable staffer, Amy, gave us a brief introduction to the regular collection plus some special exhibits including one about immigrants to this area. We also did the self-guided walking tour and admired the many beautiful slate roofs in town. We highly recommend the Birdseye Diner in Castleton, VT -- a lovely little town nearby -- it's a 1940's dining-car diner and has wonderful food including delicious pies. The country store across the street has a great selection of local foods, beer, and wine. Plus the banana bread you can buy there (from the Castleton pizza place) is fantastic. Farther afield in Rutland are Roots Restaurant and Table 24 -- both offer local produce, beers, and wines. Perry's in Poultney offers good, casual food. All in all, a lovely, restful getaway in beautiful surroundings with a perfect lakefront cottage to come home to. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
