Most beautiful vacation home I've ever rented

5 of 5
The pictures did not prepare me for how lovely this place was. Beautiful details throughout the home - rugs, antique books, pretty artwork, great assortment of glassware, etc. It truly looks like a home that someone cares about, not a home furnished with the kind of crappy stuff you'd give your son to furnish his first apartment in college (as most other vacation rentals seems to be.) Although not included in photos here (at least the last time I checked), the hot tub is indeed there on the deck and it was awesome. I was a little worried about renting a home that was on the same property as the owners. I was afraid we wouldn't have privacy. But the hot tub faces away from their house. And the owners were really cool anyway so there was nothing to worry about. The only possibly negative thing I'd mention is the "modified ship's ladder" that takes you to the upstairs room and the bridge connecting them. For some reason, I didn't think it actually was going to be a ladder. It was definitely a ladder. People with limited mobility (or a fear of ladders, as one of my friends has) would not do well with this. As it was, another of my friends (who does not fear ladders) slipped going down the ladder one day and bruised herself pretty badly in a few places. Let me be clear - there is nothing unsafe about this ladder. She had just put lotion on so she was slippery and she slipped off the ladder, several rungs from the bottom. So, make sure that your hands and feet aren't slippery and you should be ok. The bridge that goes between the two rooms is really neat. Another thing to mention is that there isn't a fourth wall in those bedrooms so people staying in them will have less privacy. Overall this house was beautiful. I live in Connecticut, but my fiance and I are now thinking about having our wedding here because the setting was just so lovely. I highly recommend this place and (obviously) I plan to return. My friends all loved it too.

Relaxing week, Great Accommodations

4 of 5
My family of 4, including two teen children spent 1 week at the Aldrich Carriage Barn. This second level walk-up apartment has all the comforts of home and is was very appointed. The beds are very comfortable and the entire suite is super clean. Our favourite place in the cottage had to be the window bench which overlooked Claire's garden. The cottage is not located on the waterfront but it is only a few minutes walk to the beach. We thoroughly enjoyed the tranquility of Isle La Motte and my husband and son spent most days fishing on Lake Champlain. The lake is clean and has an abundance of fish. There is a private beach but it was quite narrow as the water was high when we visited. However, there is a wonderful shaded deck which overlooks the water and beach area, where my daughter and I spent many afternoons just reading. I brought my bicycle and toured the island as the scenery is fabulous. Many of the roads follow the shoreline and they is minimal traffic and the roadways are excellent. There is no internet and this is an amenity that we missed. A big thank you to Claire & Mike for their hospitality and their great place.
