I originally chose the Barn because of its proximity to Lake George NY as well as some of the Vermont spots we wanted to visit. It also sounded neat to stay in a converted Horse Barn. The original wood beams in the house were really beautiful but it was also updated with all the modern amenities including washer/dryer, dish washer, updated kitchen, cable and wifi. It was roomy enough with the upstairs and basement for 5 of us. There was also plenty to do for the kids with a huge yard, swimming at the lake and the ping pong table.
There are good restaurants in the immediate area (Lakehouse, Castleton Bistro/Pizza) when we didn't feel like cooking and the house is close to the lake and 10 minutes away from the surrounding towns of Fair Haven and Castleton. Also, you have to try the fruit stands, especially the one on Route 30 to Fair Haven (they make their own cider donuts and pies).
Overall, it was quiet and comfortable base for our day trips to Six Flags, Hildene, Ben & Jerry's (way over-rated), Fort Ticonderoga, the Marble museum. I would stay at the house again and recommend the house to others.
