Clean, Spacious, Great Lawns, Spectacular View

5 of 5
Our family had a wonderful stay at this spacious, clean, and fully-stocked house. The kids (5 & 3 yrs.) loved the large lawns, the shed full of toys, the paddleboat, inflatables, and all the room in the house. Croquet, baseball, frisbees, life jackets, badminton, golf clubs and balls, all kinds of fun stuff to play with and great lawns to do it on. The screened in porch is a great resting spot (hammock) and we used the outside fire pit often. The house is relatively new and so it is very clean and orderly, with nearly any household need accounted for. We have rented a couple lake houses in this area and this is the cleanest, neatest one we've seen. If you are tired of "camp" style houses then this may be for you. The waterside view is spectacular with a quiet little bay looking north toward Canada. The water was nice; slightly weedy, rocky bottom, very shallow. The only drawback is the shallowness of the water (the lake was down when we were there -not sure how the level has change since) which made swimming a little awkward and made it difficult to use a boat. We tried to rent a pontoon boat and were told that we weren't allowed to by the boat rental place (North Hero Marina - not recommended) that we couldn't because it was too shallow in our bay. This was a bit of a bummer but we were able to rent a boat at a different location, just not able to bring it up to the house. The owners told me this was unusual and that they usually have plenty of guests keep boats at the dock so I would just be wary of this situation and maybe arrange something in advance. The cement boat ramp would make it easy to launch your own boat, however. We also rented stand-up paddle boards at Hero's Welcome which is a great place to rent things as well as a fantastic lunch spot and tourist shop. The owners Don and Mary were extremely accommodating and friendly - and accessible - and overall I would highly recommend this house to any family.

Spacious house in lovely setting, private beach

5 of 5
We had a wonderful family reunion here, with seven adults, one seven-year-old and four children under two. There was room for all in the house; the proximity to the large garden and our own beach was very special. Steps from the yard lead down to a rocky beach and dock but there was a secure gate at the top of the steps to keep small children from going to the beach alone. Someone was out fishing in the rowboat every day; our grandson caught his first fish (smallmouth Bass). We had morning coffee in the Adirondack chairs on the porch, ate dinners at the picnic table in the yard, and had bonfires in the evenings on the beach, where we watched the moon rise over Lake Champlain. We explored the island and were fascinated by the fossils. We enjoyed a Sunday concert at Fisk Farm and a visit to St. Anne's Shrine. On a rainy day we drove into Burlington (1 hour away) and took the children to the ECHO Aquarium and Science Center. We were pleased that the house was fairly secluded and the people we did see were friendly and polite. The house is well-equipped with all that we needed, from books to cookware to life preservers for the boats. We hope to return if we can get everyone together again.
