After reading the numerous reviews and seeing the pictures of this cabin, we knew this the place for our next vacation. We were not disappointed. Before we even opened the door, we were mesmerized by the beauty and serenity of the pond which we found lasted from sunrise to sunset. The frogs, the varied ducks, Canadian Geese, beaver, Ruby Throated Hummingbirds and Great Blue Herons all brought the pond to life in a never ending chorus of nature. Quite breathe taking at times. Once inside the cabin, we were met with a rustic charm that could have been right out of a "Country Living" magazine from the cast iron gas stove to the country quilts on the beds. Once you get used to the nuances of the cabin including no electricity, cooking with gas, planning ahead for bathes and the night noises, it is true relaxation. The cabin features a notebook with useful information of the local sights, a map of the surrounding area, very easy to follow directions for turning on and off the gas. Grocery stores, ice cream shops and gas stations are very nearby for easy access. The cabin comes complete with dishes, pots, pans, sliverware and other typical kitchen wares including a percolator coffee pot (coffee the old fashioned way!). During our stay, most of our time was spent either on the deck or in the screened in porch. We were nicely surprised at how few bugs there were, even for August! Activities we enjoyed in the surrounding community included a day at the water park at Jay Peak- a must do if you have children. The Pump House is full of fun slides, lazy river, surfing wall and is kept very clean with lots of food options. We also rented a pontoon from the Newport Marina for an afternoon on the lake doing a little fishing and sight seeing- would do again but suggest to call ahead as boats book quick in prime time. In addition, Kathy was very helpful with any questions asked and we would certainly recommend this cabin to anyone that wants to enjoy a "break from it all".
