Caveat emptor

4 of 5
My family and I (nine of us) rented this property for a weekend in August. The place is amazing and we had a great time, especially being so close to the Mad River Barn Restaurant and Tavern. The solitude was perfect. My only concern is the current dispute over the cleaning fee. The contract called for a non-refundable $150 cleaning fee and a refundable $250 deposit for damage/extra cleaning. We left the place in reasonable condition but I was informed the cleaning crew charged an extra $240. I guess we were supposed to do our own laundry before checking out. Just beware. Maybe find out what you are expected to do before leaving.

Magnificent home

5 of 5
This home is beautiful. The views are awesome and the openness of the home is perfect for entertaining or families. I have stayed there several times. Great for couples or families. Beautiful kitchen and master bedroom. Great boot room right inside the door. Highly recommend d.

One of our best vacations ever!

5 of 5
In short, this is a fantastic place to stay! We were looking for a place to get away, relax and enjoy some outdoor recreation and the Owl’s Nest fit the bill perfectly. It’s a cozy space that is as good for waffling away the afternoon while sitting by the fire and watching the snow fall as it is jumping out and hitting the showshoe trails. It’s convenient to a wide range of Vermont attractions but far enough off the beaten track to really feel like a getaway. While the place itself is terrific, our hosts Gretchen and Greg made our stay truly outstanding. From our arrival they welcomed us with great conversation, local cheeses and home brewed beer which was the perfect antidote to a long drive and the perfect way to start our vacation. Always sociable but never intrusive, Gretchen and Greg made sure we had what we needed be it directions, recommendations, or ideas for activities. They opened the door to a world of beautiful countryside, outstanding local food, an exciting craft beer scene, and great company. This was one of our best vacations and we still reflect fondly on it. While we always like to experience different places, we definitely look forward to coming back!
