Best little house

5 of 5
What a spectacular little house! The space was planned brilliantly, so it feels much bigger than it is. All brand new, lovely colors, comfortable bed. There is a full sized refrigerator and a 5 burner gas stove, so you could actually cook like you do at home. The porch is deep enough that you could sit out there with friends late into the evening, right on the water. My husband is an architect, and we couldn't really find anything that we would change about this house! I would highly recommend this rental to everyone except the very young (might fall overboard) or someone who has trouble climbing stairs (they are a little steep.)

An airy retreat

5 of 5
Our group of four had a wonderful stay on Janet's houseboat in Sausalito. Everything was as described in the listing, but the pictures don't convey the true feeling of peace and space in this lovely rental. Janet has excellent taste and has equipped the houseboat with truly everything one could need, making it a stylish and comfortable retreat. We very much appreciated the extra touches like the freshly ground coffee delivered the day we arrived, and the good quality toiletries in the kitchen and bathrooms. Practical matters - all was exceptionally clean (and I am extremely picky about clean), Janet was always responsive and helpful in our arrangements, and I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family. We enjoyed spotting various water birds out the huge windows as the tide rose and fell - one blue heron seemed to be a resident, stalking between the houseboats at low tide! The neighbours were quiet, but friendly when we encountered them as we came and went. The houseboats on the wharves in the area are fascinating, so be sure to wander about and make use of the local history book on the boat-building industry and historic houseboat culture that Janet provides. If you enjoy walking, you are close to some good restaurants (Avatar was great food and great fun) plus a small and a larger grocery store. Bike rentals are just down the road and a bike path runs along the water just past the houseboat area. The location is super-convenient for touring the Sausalito and Marin areas, and we made day trips over to the Point Reyes area also. On our last full day, we drove and climbed to the top of Mount Tamalpais, then could see the scene of our efforts as we relaxed in the living area back at the houseboat. All in all, a remarkable place to stay, owned and run by a person who understands both the large matters and small touches that provide comfort and remove stress for travellers. Thank you, Janet, and we hope to de-stress at your houseboat again soon! Cathy and Family

Adventurous Acommodations

4 of 5
We had a wonderful time in Baltimore and staying on a houseboat added to the adventures. There were 4 adults and 2 college students (adults too) in our group. Each of us had beds and there was room to hang out together in the evening. One thing I did not expect was the rocking of the boat throughout the evening. It wasn't a problem, and was soothing as we laid down to sleep. I was worried that we'd be cold but the boat heated up nicely. Donovan, the caretaker, met us when we arrived and had the boat warm and inviting. He was helpful giving up tips for the boat and downtown area. The location is ideal. We walked downtown in minutes and had a plethora of restaurants, shops, and coffee houses to choose from. We ate dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant downtown that was marvelous. Others staying on houseboats (visitors like us and locals that live there) were very friendly. The only downside was the mattress for the pull out couch. It was awful and made sleeping very difficult and uncomfortable. There was a blow up mattress available but it was a single not a double. The mattress in the state room was exceptional! So much so that our friends plan to buy one for themselves. I would recommend this house boat and the company to others, in fact, I already have. It was very affordable, comfortable, warm, in a great location (parking was abundant at the marina - thank you), and a different experience for a weekend visit.
