Our group of four had a wonderful stay on Janet's houseboat in Sausalito. Everything was as described in the listing, but the pictures don't convey the true feeling of peace and space in this lovely rental. Janet has excellent taste and has equipped the houseboat with truly everything one could need, making it a stylish and comfortable retreat. We very much appreciated the extra touches like the freshly ground coffee delivered the day we arrived, and the good quality toiletries in the kitchen and bathrooms.
Practical matters - all was exceptionally clean (and I am extremely picky about clean), Janet was always responsive and helpful in our arrangements, and I will definitely be recommending it to friends and family.
We enjoyed spotting various water birds out the huge windows as the tide rose and fell - one blue heron seemed to be a resident, stalking between the houseboats at low tide! The neighbours were quiet, but friendly when we encountered them as we came and went. The houseboats on the wharves in the area are fascinating, so be sure to wander about and make use of the local history book on the boat-building industry and historic houseboat culture that Janet provides.
If you enjoy walking, you are close to some good restaurants (Avatar was great food and great fun) plus a small and a larger grocery store. Bike rentals are just down the road and a bike path runs along the water just past the houseboat area.
The location is super-convenient for touring the Sausalito and Marin areas, and we made day trips over to the Point Reyes area also. On our last full day, we drove and climbed to the top of Mount Tamalpais, then could see the scene of our efforts as we relaxed in the living area back at the houseboat.
All in all, a remarkable place to stay, owned and run by a person who understands both the large matters and small touches that provide comfort and remove stress for travellers. Thank you, Janet, and we hope to de-stress at your houseboat again soon!
