Best Location for our London Adventure

4 of 5
Who doesn't want to stay in the swanky part of London? This was the perfect location for our family during our Spring Break trip. The flat was a great set up for our family of 4 including 2 teen sons. They each chose their room. It was nice to have space to spread out and relax. Our greeter, Helen, couldn't have been more cheerful and helpful when we arrived a little late in the evening from Copenhagen. She filled us in on everything we needed to know. The location is perfect. We spent Saturday morning wandering the Portobello Road Market which is just a couple of blocks away. There's a grocery store with friendly staff just a few blocks the other direction. We felt completely safe walking there quite late our first night. The Tube Station is about a 10 minute walk but it's a walk full of fun shops, beautiful homes and great places to eat so it may take you longer! The only downside was the neighbors we shared the building with - which can't be controlled. Our first night and day were very quiet, but then they must have returned late Sunday night. Our last couple of days we had at least one time where it sounded like they were dragging furniture around their flat while performing River Dance in tap shoes. The next night they had their music on quite late at night. I suggest some earplugs for night time. I assume this is just the nature of these old row houses and the way they have been broken up in to flats. We called it our "unique London experience". It didn't ruin the stay but I it was a annoyance after a long day of sight-seeing. I think we got even when we took showers at 4:30 the morning we left. The shower pump makes a lot of noise. :-)

A wonderful London home away from home

5 of 5
I am delighted to be writing this review on behalf of my wife and myself. We spent a wonderful week in London in early March 2014 and being in Ben’s apartment was a good part of the reason our London visit was wonderful. Location: The apartment is wonderfully located not a five minute walk from the Notting Hill Tube station and a variety of wonderful shops that provide everything you need to stock the pantry. The neighborhood is extraordinarily quiet and the apartment, being on the top floor of the building is insulated even further from any street noises. During the day what sounds one might hear are the excited voices of little boys coming from a neighboring private school. It is simply charming. Apartment: Easily accessible using a small lift/elevator, this top floor one bedroom apartment is newly renovated and exceptionally livable. Most importantly, the English king size bed (it is smaller than an American king) is very, very comfortable and was perfect for my not so very good back. There is good closet space in the bedroom. The bathroom is comfortable as well, well appointed and easy to use. There is ample hot water and a large tub in which to soak (very important). Though the water pressure is not fierce, it is just fine when you get used to it. The kitchen is excellent and is part of an open floor plan of kitchen, dining area and living room. The appliances work and work well and the cabinets are stocked with usable plates and utensils. We frequently ate lunch and dinner in the apartment and felt completely at home. The dining area is comfortable and spacious, bathed in bright sunlight during the day from two very large windows that overlook the rooftops. The living room area is perfectr for sitting, reading, lounging and watching a really good and big flat screen television with all the cable amenities. Ben’s wifi is excellent and easy to use – a must for a home away from home. As if this were not enough, the best part is Ben who is a responsive, friendly, easy going landlord/host. We could not ask for anyone better. We have every intention of returning to this lovely apartment.

Great Location, Tremendous Value, Excellent Hosts

5 of 5
Lee and Haydn's flat is the perfect base if you want to experience London like a local. Bang-central in the best part of Notting Hill, the flat is exactly as described in the pictures. Clean and comfortable, it's a nice home away from home compared to most cramped London hotel rooms. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within steps of your front door. If you're there on a weekend, it's fantastic to have the Portobello market just one block away. Public transport is near-by and easily accessible if you want to visit all of the usual London landmarks.
