Uncomfortable, dingy, terrible value!

5 of 5
This cottage is terrible value for the money. I've stayed in Turks and Caicos many times during high seasons. I know what to expect from rentals that cost this amount. For the listed price, one can expect a comfortable bed, air conditioning (available, even if metered and charged to renter), and all parts of the dwelling in working order. For that price there are no frills, but a renter can expect basic comfort. This cottage did not offer basic comfort, safety, or working order. First, lack of comfort: The bed was rock hard, there was no air conditioning available, and though I was told that the breeze off the sound would make it cool enough, that wasn't true. It was too hot to sleep. In addition, the cottage lacked lighting while it did not have large windows to let in natural light. Lack of safety: there was supposed to be a code lock for security. This wasn't provided - (no explanation as to why). The "lock" was a doorknob of interior strength and a traditional key. The door would close only if locked, so the renter risks letting bugs in if he wants to make trips to the car to get groceries without having to lock/unlock the door while carrying things. Also, the staircase was half missing! I was warned that there would be "construction next door," and that "no construction would occur during [my] stay," but I didn't think this meant that half of a missing staircase from abandoned construction would invite my child to hurt herself. Cleanliness: bathroom had broken, loose tile pieces, dirty curtains/walls (with brown stains - rust, I hope). I expect sand on the floors on an island. But the layer of grime on the floors in the kitchen and living area suggested the cottage hadn't seen a deep cleaning in years. Basic function: all screens on all windows were broken, and let in lots of bugs. Fridge shelves were broken, and couldn't support groceries. Appliances were ancient. On our second day, the smoke detector malfunctioned, emitting a constant, loud beeping noise. This was the final straw that made the cottage unlivable. The (absentee) owner was nice when I alerted him of the issues, and offered another place. But we had left already because we could not sleep in a hot, dirty, broken, beeping place. I just wonder how he let it get into that condition in the first place! For 3/4 of the price of this cottage, we found a clean cottage with a comfy bed, free A/C, and a small pool. This place needs a lower price or an overhaul!

Peaceful and Beautiful

5 of 5
This rental is exactly as advertised. Everything you need, nothing you don't, clean, and quiet. The whole rental experience was easy and the owner and property manager were very communicative. The location of the property is just awesome! You're walking distance (minutes) from downtown Cockburn Town, and right on a beautiful stretch of beach. We couldn't have been a happier with our stay.

Best Vacation Ever

5 of 5
Vacationing on the Grand Turk was the best thing we ever did. The beaches, the island, the sunshine, the weather, the temperature, the people and of course the potcakes all together made our vacation an awesome one. Staying at the Crabtree Apartments is what tied it all together. At Crabtree we were in the perfect location. Crabtree is located right on the beautiful beach where you get just the right amount of breeze to keep the apartment cool and you can listen to the waves. I fell asleep twice on the veranda listening to the waves. It is so relaxing. Crabtree is also just the right distance away from town, the airport and the cruise center but yet close enough to walk. By no means do you have to walk. There are many taxi's , car rentals, scooter rentals and golf cart rentals but our preferred mode of transportation were the bikes that Crabtree provides. They are perfect because on bike you get to see more of the island due to the fact your not zooming past everything. On bike you get to know the people living on the island. Everybody waves and says hello. There wasn't a time that I was riding the bike that I didn't get into a conversation with at least one of the locals. They are exceptionally nice people. If anyone thinks you may need help, they will pull their car to the side of the road just to ask. They make you feel at home. Ok back to Crabtree Apartments. They are beautifully well kept apartments. The size is perfect. They aren't small and cramped, and they are not huge where you have to spend a lot of time to clean. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pans and pretty much anything you need to cook and serve food with. The bedrooms are very comfortable I haven't slept that good in a long time. The things that set Crabtree apart from the rest of the rental places that I've seen is #1 already mentioned the location, #2 The veranda. It offers a beautiful and comfortable view of the beach and ocean but offers a retreat from the sun. If you look at the other rentals they seem too open, giving up privacy and don't offer much for shade. #3 You only have 2 neighbors. This allows you to have the privacy that you want to rest and relax, but also gives you the chance to meet new people if you choose to. The other rentals that I've seen there are six or more units. Thank You for such a wonderful vacation. Joe M.
