Uncomfortable, dingy, terrible value!

5 of 5
This cottage is terrible value for the money. I've stayed in Turks and Caicos many times during high seasons. I know what to expect from rentals that cost this amount. For the listed price, one can expect a comfortable bed, air conditioning (available, even if metered and charged to renter), and all parts of the dwelling in working order. For that price there are no frills, but a renter can expect basic comfort. This cottage did not offer basic comfort, safety, or working order. First, lack of comfort: The bed was rock hard, there was no air conditioning available, and though I was told that the breeze off the sound would make it cool enough, that wasn't true. It was too hot to sleep. In addition, the cottage lacked lighting while it did not have large windows to let in natural light. Lack of safety: there was supposed to be a code lock for security. This wasn't provided - (no explanation as to why). The "lock" was a doorknob of interior strength and a traditional key. The door would close only if locked, so the renter risks letting bugs in if he wants to make trips to the car to get groceries without having to lock/unlock the door while carrying things. Also, the staircase was half missing! I was warned that there would be "construction next door," and that "no construction would occur during [my] stay," but I didn't think this meant that half of a missing staircase from abandoned construction would invite my child to hurt herself. Cleanliness: bathroom had broken, loose tile pieces, dirty curtains/walls (with brown stains - rust, I hope). I expect sand on the floors on an island. But the layer of grime on the floors in the kitchen and living area suggested the cottage hadn't seen a deep cleaning in years. Basic function: all screens on all windows were broken, and let in lots of bugs. Fridge shelves were broken, and couldn't support groceries. Appliances were ancient. On our second day, the smoke detector malfunctioned, emitting a constant, loud beeping noise. This was the final straw that made the cottage unlivable. The (absentee) owner was nice when I alerted him of the issues, and offered another place. But we had left already because we could not sleep in a hot, dirty, broken, beeping place. I just wonder how he let it get into that condition in the first place! For 3/4 of the price of this cottage, we found a clean cottage with a comfy bed, free A/C, and a small pool. This place needs a lower price or an overhaul!

Excellent property

5 of 5
My husband and I recently spent 10 days here with our 3 children (5 & 2 years old & 16 month old). This property was perfect for our needs. Easy walk to amenities, including grocery store, restaurants, bars, bakeries etc. The roadway is well paved and lit for evening strolls. The beach is 5 mins away by foot. The house is very clean and well equipped. There was nothing we needed during our stay. Linda, the property manager, was easily reached by phone when I forgot the entry code to the house :) We will be back and highly recommend for families wanting to self-cater and explore Provo independently.

Beyond Impressed!

5 of 5
I thought for sure that there was no way the rental could meet the expectations that had been set by looking at the pictures and reading the other reviews, but I was very wrong! This place is amazing! We spent most of our time (when we weren't in the pool) relaxing on the screened-in porch. Lounging on the couches and chairs was perfect first thing in the morning or after dinner. The house was just a few minutes walk from the beach and a 10-15 minute walk from restaurants and shopping. We got a taxi from, and back to, the airport but other than that we really did not have a need for a car. We did a few tours that took us around to other parts of the island and the only other time we may have needed a rental was when we wanted to go the Thursday Fish Fry. There are so many things to do within walking distance that we never even thought about not having a car. One of the great things about the house location is that you are a very short walk from the best restaurant on the island, Coco Bistro. We went to plenty of other great restaurants including, Caicos Cafe, Ricky's (now Flamingos), Melt, Via Veneto and a few others. This rental is 100% worth the price and we would stay here again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend this house to anyone contemplating a Turks & Caicos vacation!
