Hidden Gem, great for families!

5 of 5
Our stay at Silver Palms cottage was fantastic. The location is amazing, set right on a virtually private beach. We have 2 small children, so being in Long Bay was perfect, because the water is so shallow and calm. The afternoon we arrived Tatum stopped by with fresh fish, which made for a fantastic dinner that evening. We also took them up on the offer to pre-stock the house with essential food and beverages, which again just made the entire experience so much more enjoyable. No need to go to the grocery store right away. And having the pool right nearby made it so great, especially at low tide when it's not really deep enough to swim in the bay. And the bed right down on the beach are amazing. We spent so much time there, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Being so close to the water, it was super easy to enjoy the beach with small kids, since there's no need to pack up a car to get to the beach, and you don't have to sacrifice your prime beach spot to eat lunch. The house was very clean and comfortable. The grounds keeper Ben was fantastic, and was really great with the kids, who absolutely adored him. A car is necessary, and the deal they offered with the house was great and had plenty of room for our full family. We used the babysitter they recommended, which is also the housekeeper, and the kids also loved her. We felt comfortable having her watch the kids twice while we got some alone time exploring. The only thing I'd note is to make sure you get the code for the alarm system when you arrive. The second day we were there it started beeping every 90 seconds or so, and you need the code to turn it off (which took us a while to figure out, and then get in touch with Tatum to get). I'd definitely recommend this as an alternative to the resort scene, especially if you're looking for a quiet locale and easy access to an amazing beach.
