Secluded Phuket

With a view and location like this its hard to find much wrong with the world, let alone the apartment. Of all the options in Phuket I think this is one of the better vacation stays. Its out of the main tourist zones and right on the Sea without being a resort, which is exactly what I was looking for. Just a couple of clarifications that I don't think are clear on the listing; Even though this is listed as an apartment, the building is comprised of some hotel rooms and 2 other privately-owned apartments (one on the floor below and one above this particular unit). Therefore, there is a front desk, daily made service, and a concierge, similar to a hotel. Not complaining about that, of course. Oddly, though I was asked for a security deposit from the front desk staff even though I made a sizable deposit (L1,000) through Homeway to the owner. (Sidenote: I had to request a refund, it was not automatically sent). The main attraction for staying here, aside from the obvious, was the kitchen. We like to cook and shop for local groceries while on vacation. On the bright side there is a fish monger directly adjacent to the building. We bought fish, prawns and lobsters (!). Funny that no one at the building, nor the owner, knew this place existed. Our luck! There is also a grocery store down the street towards the bars that has just about everything you would need. Downside was the kitchen equipment was not adequate. We made due, but Id like to see it more fully equipped. There was only one (wobbly) large pot, one pan, a few plates, and a couple of knives. Lots of silverware and glasses, however. (Chiana did warn me in advance, after I asked, that this is not her primary residence so it may be lacking on equipment). It was not a problem for us, since it was just the two of us, but the second bedroom is not really a bedroom by western standards. It does have an en suite bathroom but has no exterior window. This wouldn't fly in most parts of the world. So if you are planning to share this place with another couple, keep in mind someone is going to get the substandard bedroom with no natural ventilation. Unfortunately, the immediate area is lacking in authentic Thai restaurants/stands. There are only a few road-side stands towards Surin Beach. For the most part, the area is filled with generic restaurants and resort-type dining. Best to go to Phuket town once or twice for a real dinner. Just a few quibbles. Overall, it was a great stay!

Took a family of 6, we loved it, the house has everything and quite, away from the rat house of Phuket City, so many places to eat, well maintained and also has a sailing school for kids. My kids said it was there most memorable holiday and we go all over the world. Regards Ian Pentz

My wife and I just turned 60, for a special vacation we started in Chaing Mia, and worked our way south. Hua Hin, Koh Samui and Krabi. We where very fortunate to land in Phuket and stay at Ian's villa. Because of the volume of fringes (foreigners) who enjoy Thailand each year, it is easy to end up in a miniature hotel room, and stuffed onto overcrowded beaches like sardines in a can. THIS IS WHERE IAN'S VILLA EXCELS!!! Quite beach less than 100 yards from the property. No it is not the white sand beaches, with crystal clear water found on the Islands surrounding Phuket, But it is a great spot to start a days adventure or finish off the night, listening to the waves lapping up onto the sandy beach. The Villa is complete in every detail down to small flashlights by bed stands and, the huge BBQ, with a Local market (2 X a week) within walking distance, offering fresh fruit, vegetables, and seafood so you can cook your own dinners. A short walk on the beach brings you to a great restaurant where food is complemented by the friendly staff, and seating thirty feet from the ocean. You need transportation to get around, whether exploring the Big Buddha site, going to different beaches, day trips to the Islands (A Must Do) or discovering a Thai BBQ restaurant, a Taxi cab, or scooter---for the adventurous is a must. Our drive from the airport to Villa (45 minutes)got us in touch with Viratt, a great taxi driver, and tour guide. Dropping by with fresh pineapples, bananas, mangos or just checking up on us we felt privileged to have a driver at our beck and call. (Or Thai Taxi Stand minutes from Villa.) CAUTION: before you jump on a tour boat and head for Phi Phi islands, or other destinations, research your choices. "Offspray Liesure" a great tour boat service that will not overpack their boats to make an extra buck, at your expense. Service 1st class. If the boat can hold 24 people they take 15-17. What Ian writes about the Villa is exactly what you get, great value for your money, clean comfortable with everything you need for R & R. Huge bedrooms, great private pool, and Pascal steered us to great spots to see and feel Thailand. Thanks Ian We will be back. C & R
