Geronimo Creek Retreat is amazing! There really is something for everyone here. If you want to relax, you can sit out on the tree house deck, in a hammock or on a swing and enjoy the scenery and the company. The creek was a big hit with the kids who used the kayaks and the rope swing and then warmed up in the hot tub. One member of our group brought a volleyball net, and there was plenty of space to play and not interfere with the boys who played football in another open area. In the rec room, the ping pong table got a lot of use, and we built a fire in the pit each night and made s'mores.
No one stayed in the Homestead House or the tipis, but I'm sure they would've been lovely as well. The kids thought about staying in the tipis, since there is no wifi, they decided that the sacrifice would be too much. The adults were deterred by the thought of having to go outside to use the restrooms at night, and since we all had the option of indoor plumbing, we decided we didn't have to "rough it."
We didn't leave the property, but there are plenty of options nearby in New Braunfels and Gruene if you need to "get away from getting away."
The wifi in the treehouses wasn't working, so I sent an email to Mike Prendergast, the property manager, and he came out within an hour on a Saturday to fix it. (We felt badly to have disturbed him on the weekend, especially since it wasn't an emergency. He was so gracious and wanted to make sure that we enjoyed everything about our stay; he really defines great customer service.) I stayed at GCR 18 months ago, and it's obvious the owners want this to be a great experience; there were improvements that had been made since my first visit.
We didn't take advantage of everything the property has to offer, but will definitely be back. This is a perfect destination for a family reunion, company retreat, etc. We were the only ones on the property at the time, but it's large enough that sharing the amenities wouldn't be a problem.
The only suggestions to improve the experience would be to have been if there had been some smaller logs in the wood pile to make lighting the fire easier. Also, we couldn't find any darts to use on the dart board, and several of the games in the rec room were not complete. I feel silly even mentioning those issues because they are so minor, but the management seems so concerned with ensuring that the guests have a great time, I thought I would provide that feedback.
GCR is a gem!
