Perfect Retreat-Family Center and Lodge & House

5 of 5
This is a lodge reconstructed from a barn in Wisconsin, but with lots of barn support timbers shaped with axes and paneling inside from Cedar Elm, the other large Central Texas trees besides the live oaks. The porch is so inviting its hard to go inside, but inside one is overwhelmed by the beauty and mix of old Wisconsin barn and newest materials. Downstairs has a den with large screen TV, lots of comfortable seating, and fully equipped kitchen at one corner of the big room-den. Sleeping quarters are in two bedrooms at each end of the large room, and above each end and bedrooms are lofts. Bedrooms at each end are separated by full baths, and each loft is reached via a ladder, so a great adventure for older kids. The whole Lodge is quite new and well kept and clean. Adjacent to the Lodge is a house which would be like a middle-class home anywhere else, but with a bunkhouse added and garage converted to playroom. In back of the house is a covered patio, so for a large group staying in the house and Lodge, it may be a toss-up which gathering place for a group to be. Grass? Check. Deer, birds (including owls at night and hawks during the day)? Check. Dave, the owner, even has canoes and kayaks for water recreation and fishing in Lake Buchanan, and because the Lake is down due to drought, he will take you to the boats. Customer service? Check. Quiet, in the country? Check. Recommend to 2 or more families, with or without kids, or as a group or retreat center? Check. Unique? Triple check.

Phenomenal amenities

5 of 5
We recently stayed at this lake house for a week long spring break and had a great time. 1) Lots of space. There are two separate houses. There are 4 bedrooms with separate bathrooms for each bedroom, each with 3-4 beds in the room. In addition, there is a bedroom and a loft together (7 beds total) with a separate bathroom. We had 4 families: 9 adults and 9 kids and we fit comfortably. You can put a family in each bedroom with the number of beds it has, or you can put 4 couples in a separate bedroom and put all the kids in the bedroom plus loft. 2) Great amenities in the grounds. The best feature of this house is all the amenities. The grounds is large. Its probably more than an acre. The second house is a game room (it also has two of the bedrooms with 2 baths) and it has a large flatscreen (we brought our xbox for evening tournaments), a air hockey table, a pool table, and outside it has a table game table, ping pong table and table soccer game. Between the two houses is a very large covered patio (not pictured as its new for 2015) with lots of seating space and an outdoor gas grill and cooking station. This is in front of a very nice pool and spa. There is another area with an outdoor fireplace and sitting area, another covered patio and outdoor dining table, a large yard (lake water is down) for soccer, baseball or kickball (we did all 3), a sand volleyball court and a very nice basketball hoop in the parking area. The outdoor amenities including the fireplace, heated pool and heated spa, plus the outdoor heaters came in real handy. Because of the cool and wet weather we had during our stay, we didn't leave the property for a 2-3 days and had lots to keep us entertained. With 18, a smaller house would have been a challenge and cozy, but with this place, we were never cramped. This was our first time to Lake Buchanan. We didn't get a chance to enjoy or experience the lake with the weather. One warning, the surrounding homes around this lake house are not much to look at- we were expecting more given the lakefront and hill country, but the place is literally a compound with a gated entry and high fence. We went to Inks lake park and the hike to Devil's Waterhole was beautiful. We even saw a bobcat. They will rent canoes, kayaks and paddleboats. 10 minutes away. We also took a drive to Fredericksburg and Pedernales which are both ~ 1 hour away. Marble falls/LBJ is ~ 30 mins. Highly recommend if you have a large party.

In one word: Fabulous!

5 of 5
We stayed here during our annual fall girls "getaway from it all" trip. We could not have been more pleased with our choice to stay here. The house is spacious and cozy at the same time. Everything you could need is here. All of us in my group love to cook and we made use of the wonderful kitchen, stove and double ovens. We also used the BBQ pit each night. Fridge had plenty of room for all of our gourmet snacks and condiments. The property is so beautiful and well taken care of. We spent every night sitting around the fire pit talking and laughing and relaxing. Since the property is so large, we were able to use an outdoor speaker and add music to our days and nights in the yard without disturbing any neighbors. We tossed a football, played catch etc in the yard and made use of the lakefront by taking a couple of hikes. We searched for arrowheads but unfortunately came up empty-handed. We saw deer every night, lots of bird varieties and even caught sight of a beautiful red fox. One of the reasons we chose this home was due to the game room. Weather in the Hill Country can change from one minute to the next and in case of rain, we wanted to have something to do indoors. We had wonderful weather but still enjoyed the heck out of the game room. We used the pool table, foosball and challenged each other on pinball. Really cool! The game room also had a fridge, ice maker and lots of room to sit and enjoy drinks. Had we stayed longer we would have made use of all the board games available. There is a large screen TV but we spent most of our time enjoying the outdoors. The location if the property is easy to get to and if you forget anything, town is just a few minutes away. You know this house was a great choice when before the weekend was even over, our group was already trying to make plans for another visit! Lastly, we can't say enough about Katie the property manager. From start to finish, she was so helpful and accommodating. Reserving the place went smoothly. She explained everything about the property. Upon arrival, we had fresh baked cookies and flowers! You are a gem, Katie! Thanks for everything!
