We enjoyed our stay greatly. The house was so cute and retro, exactly as advertised, and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the living room furnishings, though sparse were fine for vacationers as we didn't spend all that much time sitting. Sadly, since we had been hoping for warm sunny beach weather, we found out that the heater works very well. But the weather wasn't the fault of the owner.
My partner loved being able to walk out the back door, cross the street and go fishing, and would have done it every morning if the weather had been better. Again, not the fault of the owner, but the Laguna Madre is inundated with trash, but this seemed to be pretty prevalent around all the beaches on Padre Island too, except the National Park which is lovely and worth visiting.
Back to positives, the location is superb! Less than 10 minutes and very little traffic to cross the bridge to Padre Island and also 10-12 minutes to downtown Corpus. The neighborhood is quiet and there is a nice grocery store just down the street easy to walk or drive. There was a great blue heron who lived in the canal just behind the house who we enjoyed watching every morning. We also saw lots of interesting birds on the Laguna Madre.
If the weather is inclement, the museums in downtown Corpus are very good and we also enjoyed antique shops on Alameda. We liked Sandy's Diner downtown, and also Catfish Pete's. The German Bakery on Padre Island had an amazing variety of strudels that were so tasty. Dragonfly, also on the island, was ok, but maybe a bit overrated (read overpriced) for the rough beachy type atmosphere it projected. Good dinner though. Snoopy's was nice, average food, and probably a lot more fun when it wasn't cold and windy.
The property manager, whom I never had occasion to meet was lovely to speak to on the phone and expressed her willingness to help with any problems, of which there were none. I would definitely come back to rent this house again and strongly recommend it. It has more character and charm than most of the condo/townhouse type places I saw online. There is a table on a wooden deck under that big old tree you see behind the house in the picture. We would have been out there every morning and evening, had the weather cooperated. Oh well, as I said, we hope to return someday.
