Beautiful Lake Home

5 of 5
Very beautiful home that is maintained well. I would recommend to anyone. The view of the lake and mountains from the deck is simply dreamy. We didn't use the canoe but we enjoyed sitting on the dock and watching large fish leap out of the water. There are neighbors close by (more beautiful log homes) but it was quiet and peaceful the entire week we were there. The property manager is courteous, responds quickly and will provide you with a thorough information package that is very helpful. Be sure to visit Dry Hill General Store for good food and kind hospitality. If you enjoy wine don't miss Watauga Lake Winery. Both establishments are just minutes away. Hop in the car and explore the area. It's unbelievably scenic and I look forward to going back. Thanks!

A Great Relief!

5 of 5
This was our first experience with renting a home/cabin for our vacation. If any future rentals anywhere compare to this one I will feel very, very fortunate. The whole process went smoothly from start to finish. We booked a year ahead, took advantage of the payment plan and was very pleased with the results. Red Top is a home and a half! So comfortable. It's very large, yet very cozy. Mornings were the greatest, enjoying coffee on the deck waiting for sunrise. We even had the chance to enjoy a couple nighttime thunderstorms during our stay, which was something that we had hoped for. We were welcomed by "Susie", a neighboring dog who was very friendly and easily adoptable. lol She came down the mountain every day to accompany anybody who happened to want a walking partner. The area in general is very picturesque. If you feel the need to travel around there are many sights to see within an hour drive or less. We rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon and spent some time on the lake just soaking in the beauty of it all. Some of our group traveled to Bristol to take in some NASCAR events. Which was another great experience in itself! We were treated very nicely by everyone we encountered during our stay. The locals were all helpful in answering questions or just making conversation. Despite an accident requiring a trip to the ER, our week spent at Red Top Retreat will be very memorable and cherished as a great time spent with family members. A great place for us as siblings to step back in time and become reacquainted. One of the best vacations we've ever had. Thank you Melody for sharing with us!

Awesome week at the lake!

5 of 5
My family enjoyed a wonderful week at Whipkins Cove. With 5 children (4 teenagers) it is always difficult finding suitable accommodations and this was amazing. The bedrooms are spacious, the bathrooms well designed, the kitchen well-equipped, the decks spacious and the indoor gathering spaces were well-suited for games or reading/downtime. The water is beautiful and a very comfortable swimming temperature when we were there. With little boat traffic in front of the cabin we felt like we had the place to ourselves! We enjoyed the kayacks and exploring the waterways. We certainly certainly could have spent our entire time at Whipkins cove but we also enjoyed Grandfather Mountain, Boone, Blowing Rock, ziplining, hiking, and much more... A favorite of our teenage boys was jumping off cliffs at nearby waterfalls (not for the light of heart) and our 7 year old loved going gem mining.
