Our family of 6 (2 adults and 4 children ages 15, 12, 6 and 2) stayed at the Cub House for Thanksgiving Week. It was a wonderful retreat just a short drive away from the busyness of downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Our children enjoyed the amazing views, the hot tub, backyard deck and the pool table. The first night we saw 2 bears down the hill and on Thanksgiving Day we saw wild turkeys roaming the yard! The road the house is on runs alongside an undeveloped area of the mountains, so it is very quiet and a good bit of wildlife. During the week we also saw rabbits, birds and squirrels. The highlight of the trip was 3 inches of snow the day before Thanksgiving! The bedrooms were a good size and comfortable and the kitchen made cooking a breeze.
There are plenty of things to do in Gatlinburg and the surrounding area. Everything is just a few minutes down the mountain and into town. Many places to eat, shop, etc. And grocery stores to stock up on food to bring back to the house. Just a heads up - Gatlinburg changed overnight when Thanksgiving Day came. There was hardly anyone in town but locals the days before Thanksgiving. Once Thanksgiving came, the traffic was bumper to bumper getting into town. Thanksgiving also seems to coincide with the opening of Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort. It's a wonderful place to go skiing, skating, tubing, etc. Or even just to ride the aerial tram to get an amazing view of the mountains. Just be aware that Gatlinburg will be different before and after Thanksgiving.
Overall we loved our trip, we loved the Cub House, and we would definitely stay there again.
