Recent Douglas Lake Reviews

Our group of nine loved the property.

4 of 5
Our stay was wonderful but a few small changes could have made it even more comfortable. The kitchen cookware, plates, silverware could stand to be checked and restocked. The house needs some better skillets, more mixing and serving bowls and dishes and silverware for at least the nine people it is listed as housing. The house also did not have a DVD player, although the listing lists that it should have one. Another way to improve the property would be to screen in the deck with the table, off of the kitchen area. We loved that area and spent a lot of time playing cards there but found it challenging in the evening as the bugs came out. Otherwise, the trip was awesome. The house was very roomy for 9 and was quite clean and comfortable. This house would be perfect for spending most of your time at the lake but if you intend to spend a lot of your vacation going to Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or hiking then plan to spend a lot of time in the car. The distance might not seem all that far but the traffic makes the trip seem very long. The privacy of the cove was spectacular. We had the whole cove to ourselves and spent lots of time hanging out of the dock and floating in the water. This was a wonderful way to spend a week and everyone in our group would rent this house again.

July/Aug 2013

4 of 5
Our three generation family stayed here last week of July 2013. Sorry I'm just getting around to writing a review. This property is lovely, with a beautiful tree covered drive and abundant wildlife to see. The house was the perfect size for our 8 adult and 4 children family (although another bathroom would have been nice). Children's play set is old and leaves much to be desired, but there is plenty of room for volley ball, kickball, etc. and it's great for a nature scavenger hunt for the kids! We really enjoyed the pool...full sun, water not too cold, and as with the house, large enough to accommodate our whole family without feeling crowded. The house was very clean when we arrived and has all the amenities, nice dishes, towels to use, washer & dryer, etc. When we were there, a kitchen overhead light didn't work (not just a burnt out bulb), but other than that there were no major issues. Furnishings show a little wear- just enough to be comfortable, but not so much to be considered shabby at all. We loved the sun room in the morning to have coffee and watch the deer, and in the evening to wind down! We've done Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge (45-55 min. away) several times now so didn't go back this year because there really isn't anything else in the area of interest for the kids & grand kids. We did enjoy Dandridge one day for antiquing and lunch at the hardware/general store soda fountain. The lake is nice for boating and water sports. Not crowded, even on weekends. We were pleased with the house, had a great time, and would highly recommend this property for your stay!
