Chalet La Tzena was the highlight of our first trip to Switzerland! During the planning phase of our trip from the USA, the owner was very responsive to our questions and volunteered his insight about the local attractions and amenities.
The directions were easy to follow, and we arrived to a cozy chalet with an amazing view. The chalet is very clean and updated and the well equipped kitchen comes with an espresso machine. There is a large dining table on the main level, and a living room with two large (very comfortable) sofas and a flat screen TV plus DVD player. Outside there is a wide lawn area with many lawn chairs, a table, and a barbeque with plenty of wood (we grilled twice during our week there).
August is such a great time to visit the area; temps are cool, locals are friendly, and it’s not crowded with tourists (like Zermatt was). We felt like we were locals by weeks end. There are many things to see and do within a one hour drive of the chalet. Sion itself has a great old town as well as the two castles that dominate the landscape. A short drive up the valley takes you to the Dixence dam with spectacular views. There are many hiking trails in the area but just a short walk from the chalet is the start of the bisse trail that is a beautiful (and flat) route that follows an ancient canal. The nearby towns of Vex and Heremence have cafes and a small grocery store if you don’t feel like driving more than 10 minutes.
If you are looking for a cozy cabin with a great location, wonderful views, and an excellent value for your money, you must try Chalet La Tzena!
