Our family of five (children 18, 20, 21yo) were stunned with the incredible architecture and resulting views upon arriving at this vacation home. Open-air, three-sided, and beautifully maintained, the home straddles the line between luxury and homey comfort. With daily cloudburst tropical rain and wind we were surprisingly never wet, and enjoyed a morning rainbow every day. With the pitons framing the vista to the Caribbean Sea, my wife and I could finally forget the busyness of New York life.
We took the advantage of hiring the manager, Pius, as our driver for touring and food shopping. Do not pass this up, he is well known throughout the Soufriere region, took us to the fishing marina to buy the morning's catch and he also arranged an impromtu tour of the World's Finest Chocolate cocoa plantation which is less than 1/2 mile away. He also acted as our vacation manager, suggesting which scuba guide, which water taxi, which grocery, which restaurant to use. The home's available cell phone meant he could drop us at the beach, volcano, or restaurant and he was always a phone call away.
His mother, Mary, is the home's cook and in-house concierge. She was present for meals upon request and provided laundry if you ask. Her cocoa tea was fabulous, and the jerk chicken and charcoal-grilled tuna dishes were authentic. The two, mother and son, were a highlight and deserved a generous tip.
Go to Sugar Beach. Climb the Gros Piton. Soak in the black-mud sulfur springs. Tour the botanical gardens. Fly down the zip lines. Sleep with the lulling winds and rest, you will want to return. We will.
