We stayed at Villa Makambu in March 2013. The place is all what the listing says it is plus more.
Great location above the Marigot Bay with a stunning views of the bay and the Carribean Sea, The bay with its restaurants and shops is only a short walk away (coming back is up hill though, so keep that in mind when ordering the next drink). The whole island is very safe at all times. The Marigot Bay is the best part of the island in our opinion. There are couple of beaches within a walking distance (a small secluded cove and the bay beach), but we would recommend to rent a car (preferably 4x4) and explore other parts of the island. There are some nice beaches to the north (Pigeon Island), but the best beaches and best snorkeling can be found near Soufriere in the south. It is not a large island and the drive makes a nice experience, especially the winding road along the west cost. The Pitons and the volcano are in the Soufriere area as well, which makes it a nice sight-seeing trips combined with some beach experience.
The villa itself is very modern and very nicely laid out. The bedrooms are large with a lot of air, the bathrooms are well equipped and very clean, so are the kitchens. The appliances are new and clean, there is a lot of utensils, plates, glasses, pots and pans. There were seven of us in the party, but the villa has plenty of room for more. The pool is a good size with lots of room around for beach chairs.
Jose, the property manager, can provide great insider information about the best of island’s attractions, also those off the beaten track. She seems to know every person on the island and is also well known among the locals. Every one of her tips turned out to be a good one. She lives close by and can help resolve any issues that may arise (although I would not expect any).
The big bonus is the villa care taker, Carlos. Carlos lives next door and is available pretty much 7/24. He is also a great chef and quite willing to share his talent. He can teach you how to cook some local specialties or cook them for you. Carlos also knows the local fisherman and can help you buy a fresh fish right off the boat. He has a great sense of humor and also knows everybody on the island. An island tour with Carlos on his boat is a must.
We had a great time in St/ Lucia and we are certain you will enjoy it too.
