Pinney Beach Condo at Nelson Springs

4 of 5
Great condo on the best beach, the water was perfect and beach was quiet. This was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. The condo was ready to go when we arrived, we stocked the cupboards and were able to relax for the rest of the week. The only item that we missed was a Grill for cooking outdoors. The Pool and sitting area around the Pool were great but we preferred the beach. We decided not to get a car right away and we were able to walk the beach to 3 restaurants for lunch or dinner. We used a tour company accross the street from the condo to get a better feel for the island before renting a car. We got a car for the last 2 days on the Island so we could visit the Botanical Gardens, explore the island and have dinner at some new locations. Overall Great Experience, would definitely come back.

Rest and relaxation at Hummingbird House

5 of 5
My husband and I and another couple spent two extremely relaxing weeks at Hummingbird House. It was so difficult to leave the comforts and warmth of Hummingbird and Nevis to return to the frigid temps of New England! Flexibility seemed to be the order of the day as we were allowed to check in earlier than normal as we transitioned from another home on the island to Hummingbird House. We had been informed that cold beverages (beer and Ting) would be waiting for us upon arrival, and indeed they were. Visitors are asked to restock the supplies when they depart the home; lovely to have cold drinks to greet you! Richard was most helpful and responsive before and during our stay at Hummingbird. We didn't require assistance with taxi, water taxi, and car rental as we were already on-island, but the help was readily available had we desired it. He did assist our friends with their travel arrangements from St. Kitts, and all went smoothly. When we encountered difficulty with the DVD connections and informed Richard of our dilemma, the housekeeper arrived two days later with a new machine which she quickly made operational. The house, itself, was warm and welcoming…our bed was very restful…the chaise lounges adjacent to the pool were the most comfortable I've encountered…the pool was cool and refreshing….gardens were quite beautiful. We never required the bedrooms' air conditioning as the breezes kept the house well ventilated. We enjoyed watching the monkeys nibble flowers from the trees and cavort with one another in the yard. They are quite shy and disappear quickly when human beings come on the scene. We found the conveniences available in the kitchen, dishes, glass and plastic beverage containers, utensils, pots and pans, spices, etc. more than adequate. While we didn't use the toys (air hockey, pool table, etc.) on the first floor, some visitors might find these great diversions. We did complete two jigsaw puzzles during our two week stay. All in all, we had a lovely stay at Hummingbird House and would recommend the home highly.

Great way to stay on Nevis

4 of 5
Talk about the personal touch... This is the opposite of impersonal resorts and run-of-the-mill condos and time shares. This is a real house with use of the Duncan's stuff. Gigi and Charlie moved out while we where there. The description on VRBO is quite accurate. Nice ocean view from upland a bit and in a neighborhood. And personal service, too. Gigi picked us up at the airport and gave pointers on where to eat and what to do all the way to her place. Full explanation on how to work everything in the house -- so much that we couldn't remember it all. When we couldn't get doors and the safe to cooperate, she or Charlie were there in minutes. They even left us a local burner phone to use while on the island! Also got a rental car delivered to the house (you'll need that). Excellent advice on restaurants, the ferry system, what to see, etc. And if we had any trouble anywhere on the island she would help. They've been on Nevis for 20 or 30 years and nearly everyone we met on the island knew them. So we really had an entry to the island. I took one star off 'cause there were a few rough edges. Some windows were broken (not the glass -- sashes just didn't stay open without a prop), some doors didn't work right, and there were missing screens on the doors. I got bug bit quite a bit on the first night or two but there were plenty of bug sprays at the house. I tried several until I found one that worked well and now I know a new brand that I wouldn't have discovered... I'll be getting some of that, myself. I know the Duncans are getting new screens to address this. Oh, and Nevis didn't cooperate with our schedule and the wind blew like and angry witch for nearly the whole time we were there.. Not the Duncan's fault, though, and the wind was blowing throughout most the Caribbean at the time. The house was also quite dark and no good reading lights. There are extra bulbs to be found, though. You can't get air conditioning in the living room/kitchen area but you really do get used to the "island way" of leaving everything open and letting the breeze do the work. AC in the master is strong but noisy. My wife and I truly relaxed and enjoyed having "our own house" while there, though. It was fun just discovering all the utensils and things to use in the house. Soap for the dishwasher, soap for the cloths washer, the bug sprays, books to read, DVDs to watch, etc. Totally clean except for some bugs in the windows. Pool is for plunging.
