Fabulous holiday escape

5 of 5
Wonderful.... Beautiful house, gorgeous garden and property. The view was spectacular- morning, noon and night! Started the day by sipping tea outside on the deck deciding which beach we should should visit that day. If we weren't going to one of the secluded beaches we set out sight-seeing to town or a plantation. The pool was always welcoming on our return. We could have easily sat by the pool all day but wanted to explore the island on our short stay. The kitchen had everything we needed to stay in and eat but if we wanted to go out there were lots of options within a short drive. Not sure if my favourite part of the stay was the visiting monkeys or the spectacular view of the stars while floating in the pool at night. Lots of space for four adults. We took advantage of the large screened in dining area, the large sliding doors for the wonderful breeze to keep the house cool. We had a wonderful vacation in a peaceful location. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Best vacation ever

5 of 5
My husband and I have traveled together for 10 years in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America. The Lazy Turtle villa on Nevis was hands down our favorite vacation ever. We have rented numerous villas, and none have been as clean, comfortable and relaxing as the Lazy Turtle. Caretaker, Jane, had every detail from beginning to end taken care of, so we had not a single moment of stress. If you are normally do-it-yourself vacationers like we are, please allow Jane to do her thing. She knows best about how to make everything happen smoothly on this beautiful island. Prior to coming to Nevis, we had abandoned Caribbean vacations, feeling that the entire region had become too commercialized, Not so for Nevis. Thanks to this lovely, unspoiled, laid-back island, there is still aN authentic Caribbean island experience. For us, after years vacationing in locations that are either indifferent or sometimes hostile to visitors, the genuinely welcoming attitude of Nevisians was so refreshing! It was also one less stress to have no language barrier to struggle with, since English is he official language here. The beaches are the most beautiful anywhere. The villa is directly on Nisbet Beach, which is wild, beautiful and unspoiled. We were here during peak season, and had an area of Pinney's beach, on the leeward side near the Four Seasons, completely to ourselves. No getting up at 5:00 am to reserve a spot on the beach with a flip flop. The entire beach is available any time. The restaurants we tried were all great. Pizza Beach, Lime, and Golden Rock. We also cooked at home, and the kitchen was well equipped, even for fairly elaborate meals. I couldn't help but notice the single negative review of this villa. I can't judge, since I wasn't here when that person visited, but he can't have been talking about the same Lazy Turtle. Bug infested? The worst I saw here was an ant. We have way more bugs in NC than I ever saw here. The housekeeping is impeccable, and I would literally eat off the floor. Not even any sand in the house. I would have to assume that reviewer had some other motive with such ridiculous comments. I hope everyone who considers staying here realizes what an outlier that unpleasant person is. Some people are never going to be pleased with anything. I would not hesitate for a moment staying here again, or recommending it to friends and family. This will be remembered as one of the happiest weeks in memory.

Fantastic Villa and Fantastic Island

5 of 5
We had the absolute pleasure of staying at Hummingbird House for 2 weeks. The house is the perfect set up, and has a great lay out. The gardens are absolutely stunning and the entire property sits in one of the best neighbourhoods, next to what we found to be our favourite beach, Pinney. Richard was really great to work with and highly responsive. We actually got to meet he and Claire in person while there, and they are such great people and clearly liked by everyone we met on the island, who immediately knew who they were when we mentioned we were staying at Hummingbird. I loved the sounds, the monkeys that came by each morning at 9 and then again around 3 or 4 pm in groups of 6-8 at a time. I was baking a cobbler and looked out the kitchen window to see 5 of them watching me intently as I cooked. The island of Nevis was such a find. Wonderful and warm people, lush, with goats, pigs, and of course monkeys everywhere. And staying at Richard and Claire's place made the vacation a perfect 10. As someone who has been renting villas all over the world using VRBO, I would highly recommend you choose this villa. You won't be disappointed. If you do, be sure to give Ralphie the dog next door a big hug ( and a treat) from us. Also, eat at The Double Deuce down at Pinney. We ate there many times, and the incredible food, coupled with two incredible people (Mark and Lindita) made the trip that much more special. With -20 temps we are certainly dreaming of Hummingbird House, and the island.
