wonderful!

We always stay in apartment when we travel and Oleander did not disappoint us! This is everything that is described and then some... This is a lovely apartment in an open complex with a very nice pool. The pictures are very accurate. My favorite part was the porch with its off beach breeze especially in the evening when I sat out reading sipping my Ting's. The apartment is clean and well stocked. Avenice met us at the airport and bravely came to the apartment with us riding in our rental car with me driving on the left for the very first time in my life! She will advise you where to get groceries in Basseterre and there is a small and adequate Rams right down the street. There are several students and staff from the medical and vet schools living in the other apartments who were very nice, polite, quiet and very friendly. These schools are pretty rigorous on standards for their students so that should make prospective travelers feel good about the area. This is a second floor apartment so if any steps are hard for you that would be difficult. We drove around the island but you could go to many pleas by Taxi: there are referrals in the apartment's book and Greg was especially nice. The apartment is located between the trendy Marriott (about .75 mi away) and the beach and "Strip" of beach bars/restaurants where many locals go--yummy! (about .75 miles the other direction). We walked these paths several times and never felt concerned about our safety--everyone was friendly and there were always lots of people about. On the road to the Marriott is a row of restaurants (Rock Lobster our fav) and a coffee shop with free wifi (the apartment's was temporarily out of service while we were there)Traveled one day to Brimstone Fort (spectacular views) and once to Ottley's for Father's Day brunch. Took the passenger ferry to Nevis and went to the Botanical Gardens (beautiful and lovely lunch with very nice views). The beach here is undeveloped but I suppose swim-able. We did not go in but walked it several times. All in all this apartment made our week very enjoyable: great location, comfortable accommodations and Avenice was extraordinarily helpful. Thanks Oleander!!!!

Caribbean Retreat

4 of 5
We found paradise! The very large deck over looks the crystal clear blue waters of the Caribbean with distant views of Nevis - spectacular. The main living area opens right onto the deck through beautiful large sliding glass doors. It would be great if there was a screen for the evenings to keep the bugs outside, so we had to keep them closed, but as they work so well, opening & shutting them to go in &out wasn't a problem. Inside the home is bright and spacious. The kitchen is fully applianced & out-fitted with all the essentials. Upstairs are 2 excellent-sized bedrooms with huge closets and a full bath with an odd layout that offers 2 showers (one with a tub) and two wash basins and one john set up in two areas - but it works! With the home's location at the top of Fort Tyson Rise, a car is an absolute necessity. With car rentals easy to come by (both nationally known companies and great local ones) there is no problem. While the home had some age and we did have a couple of maintenance issues (a foot through the deck and a running toilet) the company that handles this had workman there when we needed them and they were quick & efficient and did a great job. We ourselves took care of a few things that needed some attention; fixing the dining room chairs and removing and replacing some broken light bulbs, overall the home is in very good shape and the neighborhood is charming! For restaurants, there are so many fabulous ones, it's hard to name them all! Of our favorites, Marshall's (right next door) is at the top of the list and no car necessary. Others we loved are Rock Lobster, Carombola, Royal Grille and Blu (the last two at the Marriott). For breakfast, you can't beat Ritual's! Beaches is what St Kitts is all about! Timothy Beach is just down the hill with lots of beach bars for food & beverage but our favorite is Cockershell, a 15-20 minute car ride over some rough roads, but worth all the potholes! Here Lion's Rock offers cold beverages and fabulous Caribbean food! Gotta have a burger & fries, slip next door to Spice Mill. Staff to do: ride the Sugar Train, do a snorkel trip with Leeward Adventures, go to the Caribelle Batik, try the zip-line, ride up to the top of Brimstone Hill but don't miss a pina colada at Ottley's Plantation!
