Our trip got off to a rocky start when we arrived at the cabin to discover it had been overbooked and other guests were already there. The owners made arrangements and paid for us to stay in a nearby hotel and refunded the dollar amount for the day we were unable to stay at the cabin. Once we checked into the cabin, we found it to be spacious, beautiful and located in a gorgeous setting. The road is a bit treacherous and if you have a 4x4 I would recommend bringing it. Even though the cabin is stocked with necessities, there aren't many adequate pots and pans, and the games are missing pieces. There is no wi-fi and for some reason I thought there was, and it would have been a nice addition to our stay. But there is satellite TV (although we didn't watch it much), and we enjoyed playing pool and sitting in the hot tub in the evenings. Deer, chipmunks, squirrels, birds, and other wildlife were seen regularly by the cabin. All-in-all an enjoyable stay and we would most likely return. Deadwood is great if you like to gamble (we don't) but other than that there is not much to do in the area. We drove to Rapid City and visited Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park and Reptile Gardens and loved each one. Spearfish Canyon is well worth the drive for enjoying the scenery.
