Clean, Private, Roomy, Comfy with a Cabin Feel

5 of 5
Six adults stayed at the property and absolutely enjoyed our stay. The beds and bedding were super comfy and the living room furniture provided a comfy place to relax at the end of our busy days. The kitchen was well stocked with the things you need, but don't really want to have to purchase (salt/pepper, cooking spray, etc.). We spent a lot of time on the deck as there is a great swing with cushions and a big table and chairs for six. We also used the fire pit and gas grill; there were even campfire forks provided to roast hot dogs and marshmallows. This place has everything you need; all you need to bring are clothes and food. A note about the layout is that the only access from one of the king bedrooms to the bathroom and main living area is through the bedroom with the day bed. In addition, the day bed bedroom is not private as there is no door leading from the hallway into the room. I brought a tension rod and shower curtain and hung it in the doorway and it worked well to provide adequate privacy. This was a fantastic place at a good price. We would definitely stay again. Thank you to Elaine and Kirby for their hospitality.

Fantastic

5 of 5
This little cabin was perfect for us and had everything we could possibly need. It was clean and exactly as pictured on the internet. The owners even took their time and came over to met us and to see if we needed anything. It is in a great location for sightseeing at Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Lake Sylvan, Needles Highway and Custer State Park. We even took a day trip to the Badlands. I would recommend this property to anyone needing a place to stay in the area..

Just us, a cozy cabin and a gorgeous canyon view!

5 of 5
The cabin reminds me of a Harrison Ford quote from the movie Six days / Seven Nights when stranded on a remote southern Pacific Island he is asked by Anne Heche "who is on the island" and he replies.... "us". In all of our travels we've never been so "away from it all!" The view is absolutely pristine and virgin. This place today looks much as it must have to the ancients and native Americans who first inhabited it. This is truly "untouched". Every day I would gaze across the canyon expecting to see at least an occasional hiker or part of a roofline but there was only nature and "us" there, period. That is really unique! The cabin itself is so well designed to maximize views from everywhere with as many windows as a structural engineer would safely allow. Even the master bedroom has a huge picture window looking out into the canyon. We spent a ton of time inside too; reading, doing crafts, cooking & eating, and playing board games and it never felt like we were inside. I took a ton of photos inside of the cool artwork and artifacts along with the cabin architecture in general. Many log cabins still have a lot of dry wall since its cheaper to do but this cabin is all lovely logs, perfectly placed, with great craftsmanship. Its a marvel and art itself. You will never see more stars at night than you do here. We also witnessed 2 falling stars on the same night. I now realize that we only see maybe 40% of the night sky from our home in rural Minneapolis. That said, we do have a few quibbles. 1. There is only one small bathroom and that slows things down in the morning a bit. 2. We were relatively handy to our favorite Black Hills area, Sylvan Lake / Needles Highway but you are a long 65 miles from the Rapid City Safeway if you need /want high quality seafood like tuna and salmon. We eat seafood twice a week minimum, and thus made an extra trip back to Safeway RC later in the week to "re-provision". If all you need are brats and burgers this won't be necessary. We're foodies and found the cabin location not as convenient for upscale food and wines as we'd have liked. Tried the Game Lodge restaurant one night for trout and it was average at best so not sure you'll luck out finding more foodie type restaurants without going back to RC. We combined our 2nd RC trip with Devil's Tower which is an awesome place not to be missed so it all worked out. All said and done this place should be on everyone's bucket list to experience at least once. Cheers!
