THE QUINTESSENTIAL VACATION HOME

5 of 5
For a week my husband, three children, son-in-law, and I enjoyed this beautiful home. We were all so impressed with everything the house had to offer: a well stocked kitchen, porches from which to watch the deer, plenty of space to spread out, and a pool table at which everyone who wasn't me won at least one game. We enjoyed exploring the abandoned mines near the house and discovered that if you climb to the top of the hill behind the barn and - with binoculars - look out over the house you can clearly see Crazy Horse. We had a great day for Mount Rushmore. We took the scenic drive and saw so many animals: bison, prong horn antelope, wild burros, prairie dogs. I really love prairie dogs. No one would let me get out of the car and pet the bison. Probably good advice, though their thick fur looks very inviting. We approached Mount Rushmore through tunnels carved in rock. We drove over the pigtail bridges and saw the eye of the needle. Mount Rushmore was so impressive. We went back again one evening to see the ceremony where it is lit up; this is well worth the time. We explored both the Wind Caves and the Jewel Caves and enjoyed them both immensely. We spent some time at Sylvan Lake and hiked some of the trails in Custer Park. There was one day when my daughter and son-in-law did a 30 mile bike ride while my husband, sons and I drove two hours west and explored Devil's Tower. Not a bad drive at all and the four of us so enjoyed ourselves. Kirsten and Ben loved the well maintained bike trails. Two little local places that probably don't make many of the tourist books: the Purple Pie place (probably not its real name but if you stay at this house you will pass it while heading into Custer) is a great find. The pies are wonderful, the coffee is great, and the people are fun.The other place we absolutely loved was the little museum in downtown Custer. We couldn't believe how much history was packed into that little building. This was a perfect place for the six of us to get away together. It was easily accessible to everything we wanted to do (and lots of things we didn't have time to get to). It was perfect for relaxing. We cooked dinner every night but one. Grilled out on the porch on two different evenings. There were a couple of cool rainy afternoons when I made cookies which we all enjoyed while putting together a jigsaw puzzle or playing games. There was space to be together and space to hang out separately. I would recommend this home to all.

My wife and I took my mother in law and her sister to see the area around Rapid City. This place was more than perfect for us. The location was great. We were very, very satisfied and would do it again. Thanks to the person or persons who own this. we will use the site again.
