Better than perfect!

5 of 5
First look at the photos of this home, then try to imagine it being more perfect. ImpossibIe. It is, by far, the loveliest, best-kept, cleanest, best appointed, best-furnished, most comfortable, best all-around home in which we have ever vacationed. Make no mistake. This is not just a house with a dock. It is a real home away from home with a breath-taking view--an aerie in the trees, where coffee on the screened porch for the sunrise over the lake is worth the early rising. We were six adults with a "gaggle of girls" ages 9-16. Pull up 2 kitchen stools, and everyone fits at the dining tables, too. The big "two Ts" of television and texting gave way to reading and family games as the in-between and evening activities of choice. Cell phones seemed to be used only for "please come back with the boat and pick me up at the dock" calls and for photos. We rented a deck boat for the week from the marina, and left it tied at the dock each evening. All the girls learned to water ski, but equally enjoyed being hauled around on, and bounced off of, a towed raft. Lots of swimming and kayak races from the dock, with a much appreciated ladder from the water to the dock for the less athletic adults. You'll have to read the other reviews to learn about the local attractions and dining, as we all threw away out "things-to-do" lists within hours of arrival. The kitchen was fabulous and, right down to the coffee grinder, required nothing to be toted from home. We couldn't bear to leave for anything but the lake, and easily fed the whole group at home three times a day. The girls declared unanimously on day one that it was the BEST VACATION EVER! The weather was perfect but for one rainy, chilly day--sweaters, fire pit and "smores" time! That day demonstrated the ease of finding one's own place to read quietly, or joining other family members for rowdy board games. Bonuses? Lots of linens and towels, comfortable beds and bedding, washer and dryer, kitchen island for gathering around, LOTS of counter space, full sets (plural!) of pots and pans, more than enough dishes and flatware, etc. We love to cook, and had to bring with us--nothing! Bring the first morning's breakfast, then shop nearby for anything and everything else you might want to cook or have on hand. Lynn and her husband are amazing, accommodating and gracious hosts--without qualification. I used far too many words here when one would have sufficed. PERFECT! Okay, make it three words. BEST VACATION EVER!

Perfect basecamp for hiking adventures

5 of 5
My wife, our small dog, and myself stayed here prior to hiking up Table Rock Mountain and it was perfect. The home is isolated enough for privacy without being in the middle of nowhere. In fact it's only a 6-minute drive from Table Rock State Park! If you have kids you may want to bring something for them to do as the TV gets few stations but does include a DVD player. Personally, in such a beautiful location, I didn't watch TV at all - outside was ten times prettier. We visited in July expecting swarms of insects but were very pleasantly surprised to find next to none, save for bees and wasps who only bother adventurers foolish enough to disturb their nests. Though I didn't have a chance to check it out during our brief stay, there is a golf course at the entrance to the neighborhood, and we regularly saw other visitors doing for walks around it. The whole area is beautiful and serene. Overall, this rental is great for fellow hikers like my wife and I, but might be a little too woodsy for people accustomed to city-life.
