We were excited by the pictures but were not prepared for what we saw when we got there. We both felt that this was the perfect place for us, and we hadn't even been inside yet. There are so many things that just grabbed me...the colors of the palmettos against the oaks, the sounds of all the insects and birds in and around the marsh...and OH! the marsh itself. The fragrances coming from that were just incredible. In so many ways this setting just grabbed my soul and held it. Once we went inside we knew we were home. The layout of the house worked so well for us. The kitchen is so functional that meal prep was easy. The furniture is comfortable and the master bed is to die for. We found ourselves sitting on the screened porch both morning and night. It had to be our favorite place as it was just so peaceful. Each morning a male and female cardinal pair came up outside the porch an talked to us. DO NOT miss going to the pier and watching the dolphins go by. They will stop, and with their tail fins, toss the water around so that they can get a bunch of shrimp for dinner.
FIVE stars is the best rating we can give it, but it deserves more.
This cottage would work well for a quite vacation of doing nothing all day or as a base of operations for an action packed vacation. Being on the island is like being on another world. It is so quite, save for the sounds of the breezes and insects, but just minutes from the outside world.
We loved every minute of being there and if at all possible, we will be going there again in the future.
A few words about the area:
If you are into shopping, anything and everything you could want is just 3-5 miles away. Bring your mountain bikes with you too. This island is a fun place to ride on, as are the trails in the plantation. If you go to Hilton Head Island, there are bike trails everywhere. Not just trails here and there, but trails that take you everywhere. You do not need a car once there. Plan on riding on the beach too. If you have never done this you are in for a treat.
