Great Family Vacation

5 of 5
This was an excellent location. The house was roomy and bright with a nice deck for eating and relaxing. My kids sat out there and played their musical instruments. Nicely furnished, but not enough seating if everyone wants to lit and watch TV (the summer Olympics were on while we were there and the couch was a bit crowded). There was plenty of parking and an outdoor shower. The private ocean beach was very nice and easy to drive to and park, but no lifeguard so you have to keep an eye on the kids. We visited the Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, which was a very short drive away, Mystic, Ct. and the Aquarium made a great day trip, and you could visit the aquarium free the second day if you get your tickets validated. We enjoyed another great day trip to Newport and the mansions. We happened to be there on Governors' Bay Day and all the beaches were free that day so we were able to check out a few different beaches. We also went to the beach in the late afternoons, there was free parking after 3 or 4 and the lifeguards were still there for a while. There was so much to see and do we were never bored. Had a fun time shopping at The Fantastic Umbrella Factory in Charleston, where they do not make umbrellas, but have many interesting things including a small Bamboo Forest and free range chickens, as well as art and clothing. We even went to a local concert of Irish music in the town center. There is also a nearby flea market, and a seafood festival was going on while we were there. There was so much to do that it seemed like we were there for 2 weeks. We have 4 teenagers, age 12 to 19, and they all had a great time and found lots to do.

Perfect for family gatherings

4 of 5
We have happily stayed in this house in the summer and over Christmas. We are a mixed group with several couples and kids under the age of 10. The open and airy kitchen/living room is the hub of all activities, but everyone, kids and grownups alike, can escape, if need be, to the bedrooms. If you are sharing the house, try to snag the upstairs master suite, which looks out over the fields and has its own deck. The kitchen has pretty much everything you could need to put on a bbq or Christmas dinner. A 5 minute drive gets you to a beautiful beach or to the nearby town with a great supermarket. I loved coming back from either and feeling like I've left the outside world behind as I made my way down the drive alongside stone walls and tall trees.

Amazing!!!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the Dragonfly. The house is just like Mary Poppins, "Practically Perfect in Everyway". When we first arrived we were a little disappointed with the rocky beach. We ventured out and found some wonderful state beaches close by. The cottage is in a short driving distance to everything. 25 minutes to Newport. 10 minutes to Point Judith Lighthouse. Saw amazing sunsets. Each morning had coffee and breakfast while watching the sunrise. Great areas for morning walks. Nice added feature is the 2 porches. Oceanfront porch, relaxing watching the waves, street front covered porch, entertaining watching the street traffic to the local pubs and pizza place. Sunshine days and clear nights sitting on the ocean porch was beautiful. Raining days or evenings you can still sit outside on the streetside porch. Can't get any better than that. And it did rain a few nights during our stay. Theater by the Sea near by has great entertainment. Great eateries close by. Matunuck Oyster Bar, The Bistro (near Theater by the Sea) to name a few. While you are here you must go to the Fantastic Umbrella Factory. I would recommend the Dragonfly to everyone.
