Getting away from the cold winter!

4 of 5
We love Vieques! We were there 15 years ago and little has changed! There are a few more people vacationing there with more cars, but it's still a wonderful, laid back, friendly island. We took my 89 year old mother-in-law this time and she loved it too! She really enjoyed watching the iguanas and sitting on Glass Beach. We were happy that Red Beach is open now, it's the most beautiful beach I've ever been to! A touch of glass beach house was very nice. It's very comfortable and has most everything you need. We were a little disappointed about a few things: there was no snorkel equipment and that would have been nice (it probably didn't say there was any and I assumed there was), the shower didn't drain well in the downstairs bathroom and the hot tub did not get hot at all! But all in all our stay was wonderful! We loved being able to walk to restaurants, stores and bars from the house. Our favorite restaurant was Coqui Fire, right up the street! The food is great! We really loved listening to the waves and coqui at night after the absolutely beautiful sunsets!!

Hilltop heaven

5 of 5
Our stay at Hilltop Hacienda was a fun escape from the long Mn winter - and made as smooth as possible by the very friendly, prompt and courteous assistance of the owners and the property manager. Sadly - we were a day late due to Cape Air cancelling our flight the day before we left and being overbooked on the next two evening flights. Our guests had similar cancellation and flight change experiences with Cape Air and I gather it is SOP for that carrier. If you are coming to Vieques - be prepared for travel changes and perhaps allow extra long connection times. But the owner and manager were helpful and we were met at the airport. We loved the villa and the views. We were in the upper 3 BR and spent all of our time on the outdoor porch. I needed to work throughout the trip and found the internet working well - most of the time. The home was very thoughtfully appointed with new and clean cooking utensils, nice towels - and best yet - several beach chairs , umbrellas and coolers so we could explore a different beach each day. I can't tell you if the tv works as we never felt the need for any entertainment besides looking at the sea and sky and watching the occasional "break-ins" by the rambling horses and a little colt that delighted in sneaking through the fence to the manager's yard across the way. The weather and water was perfect for our entire stay. The pool by the villa was sparkling clean and made for a great place to relax in the sun and take the occasional dip. We toured with Jaks in glass bottom kayaks and had a magical night in the bio bay. I rented a bike - and tho many of the roads are narrow - found the local drivers courteous and not "scary" to a cyclist. The food and drink prices were reasonable at many of the restaurants and little stands. Most nights we picked something up so we could come back and enjoy the porch and view. If there was any drawback - I would note that the various local dogs and roosters can announce their presence - and anyone troubled by that noise will gripe a bit when you are sleeping. I found it part of the charm and "we're not at home anymore" part of the neighborhood and enjoyed the sound of waves most of the days and evenings. As a dog lover - there were several little cuties I wanted to take home in my carry on. All in all - the four adults at the villa loved our stay and would like to be repeat customers.

Awesome vacation home! Our family had a blast!!

5 of 5
We rented this home for a tropical holiday vacation for 9 adults and it accommodated our group very comfortably. We arrived late at night so it was difficult to appreciate the beauty of the home and the view until the next morning. Overall the house and the amenities in the home are accurately represented in the pictures (which is always a relief). The house is divided into an upstairs and down stairs unit with separate entrances to both. The rooms were spacious and included appropriate furnishings and individual a/c units. The remainder of the house does not have a/c units, but with the lovely tropical breeze and ceiling fans, we didn't find additional cooling necessary. Our group consisted of 4 couples and one single person. If we had 5 couples, I think we would have needed to be creative, as one of the rooms upstairs only contained a twin bed. There may have been another configuration possible if we needed it. The kitchen in each unit was well-stocked with everything we needed to prepare and serve meals that we cooked in the house or on the great grill. The veranda on the upstairs unit provided a breathtaking view for our morning brunches and coffees. The kitchenware, along with other home accessories are high quality. There's a washer and dryer outside under the stairs to do laundry, if needed. The island is pretty small and easy to navigate. We rented cars but also used the taxi service while we were there. Both experiences were positive. Be aware of the wild horses and dogs that reside on the island. They also use the roads to travel, but we didn't have any problem sharing. We had great food the entire time we were on the island. The main attractions were the dinners at Trade Winds and Next Course. Both great meals, but Next Course definitely wins the gold star for amazing food and EXCELLENT customer service. We did the bio bay tour which was beautiful (be prepared for a bumpy ride to get to the bay). We played at sea glass beach near the house, a beach at Esperanza, and Caracas (the best of the three). The house is stocked with plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, and coolers. The hospitality we received from Ron and Cheryl (the property managers) was wonderful. They were very accessible and informative. The owners were also very responsive and helpful (Rick answered all of my questions about the ferry and prepared me for that experience.) Overall, I highly recommend this home!!! Our expectations were greatly exceeded.
