Perfect size, beautiful views, great local beach!

5 of 5
My whole family had the pleasure of taking a week vacation and staying in Rick and Heidi's beautiful home in the laid back island of Vieques. Our communication with the owners prior, during, and after our visit was excellent. They also employ a property manager, Ron, who lives across the street and was available at any time for questions and also offered pick up and drop off at the local ferry to Fajardo. The house was a great size to fit our family. We spent the majority of our time on the open air porch upstairs that has spectacular views and catches the daily breezes perfectly. We also utilized the downstairs kitchen and outdoor grill daily. Both kitchens were stocked very well with all basic cookware and necessities. Beach and bath towels were plentiful, but the house also has laundry which we definitely used during our visit. The beds were all comfortable and each room has AC if needed, but the windows provided delightful breezes. The pool is not large in size but definitely fun for kids or for a quick dip to cool off or to catch one last swim for the day. The best part about this house and location is the proximity to a beautiful beach that we accessed daily. The walk barely takes 5 minutes and leads to a sandy shore full of sea glass and crystal blue and green water. Moderate current but definitely swimable water for all ages. Wild horses can also wind up exploring the beaches on occasion. Heidi and Rick's home is stocked with many beach chairs and sand toys. As much as we loved this beach, it was also exiting to explore some of the other magnificent beaches on the island. Rental cars are recommended but taxis are also available for low costs per person. Heidi and Rick offer recommendations on beaches and restaurants to visit. Maps and books on the island are also around the house, along with CDs and movies for indoor entertainment. Overall, we are all very happy with our experience in Vieques and at this beautiful home. Hope to visit again soon!

Hilltop heaven

5 of 5
Our stay at Hilltop Hacienda was a fun escape from the long Mn winter - and made as smooth as possible by the very friendly, prompt and courteous assistance of the owners and the property manager. Sadly - we were a day late due to Cape Air cancelling our flight the day before we left and being overbooked on the next two evening flights. Our guests had similar cancellation and flight change experiences with Cape Air and I gather it is SOP for that carrier. If you are coming to Vieques - be prepared for travel changes and perhaps allow extra long connection times. But the owner and manager were helpful and we were met at the airport. We loved the villa and the views. We were in the upper 3 BR and spent all of our time on the outdoor porch. I needed to work throughout the trip and found the internet working well - most of the time. The home was very thoughtfully appointed with new and clean cooking utensils, nice towels - and best yet - several beach chairs , umbrellas and coolers so we could explore a different beach each day. I can't tell you if the tv works as we never felt the need for any entertainment besides looking at the sea and sky and watching the occasional "break-ins" by the rambling horses and a little colt that delighted in sneaking through the fence to the manager's yard across the way. The weather and water was perfect for our entire stay. The pool by the villa was sparkling clean and made for a great place to relax in the sun and take the occasional dip. We toured with Jaks in glass bottom kayaks and had a magical night in the bio bay. I rented a bike - and tho many of the roads are narrow - found the local drivers courteous and not "scary" to a cyclist. The food and drink prices were reasonable at many of the restaurants and little stands. Most nights we picked something up so we could come back and enjoy the porch and view. If there was any drawback - I would note that the various local dogs and roosters can announce their presence - and anyone troubled by that noise will gripe a bit when you are sleeping. I found it part of the charm and "we're not at home anymore" part of the neighborhood and enjoyed the sound of waves most of the days and evenings. As a dog lover - there were several little cuties I wanted to take home in my carry on. All in all - the four adults at the villa loved our stay and would like to be repeat customers.

Beautiful island home in a land that time forgot

5 of 5
We had an amazing stay in a fantastic home. The nearby beaches are second to none Clean, clear water and white sand, dotted with coconut trees leave no doubt that you are in paradise. Everyone is friendly on the island. Horses wander freely about, grazing on the grasses. The pool is fresh and inviting, no need to leave the grounds. We had an amazing vacation and will be coming back.
