We stayed at Beachfront Heart Filled Villa for eight nights in August 2014. The house is roughly a square with two levels. We rented the upstairs villa. The owner's parents live on the first level. The back of the house literally backs up to the Atlantic ocean, which is on the other side of a string of small islets. The beach is down the street (10-20 minute walk, you can drive as well). The second floor has two bedrooms; two baths; a great room that includes the kitchen and two dining tables; a laundry room; and the entrance room with a couch, TV, and the wireless router. The full kitchen does not have a dishwasher, but it does have a rather unique drying rack in the cabinet above the sink. We cooked several meals in the evening. While there is no vent hood, you simply open the windows and let the breeze blow through. The master bedroom has a nice big bed and full bathroom. The second bedroom has two bunk beds with twin size mattresses up top and full size mattresses below. The only room with air conditioning is the second bedroom, which is probably typical on the island. Our whole family ended up staying in the air conditioned room because it never got cool enough for a comfortable night's sleep in the master bedroom - even with the ceiling fan and oscillating fan. It would have been nice if both bedrooms had AC units. There is a de-humidifier in the closet of the master bedroom that we didn't try.
Vega Baja is centrally located and a good place to stay if you want a single home base for your stay on the island. It is pretty easy to jump on the PR 22 toll road to go east or west. But know that it is 1 to 1.5 hours to get to most attractions, such as the Aricebo Observatory or El Yunque National Forest. All in all, we had a great time. Thank you Pamy!
