A retreat in the campo !

5 of 5
This lake house is beyond beautifully landscaped, manicured and maintained! Pedro was most accommodating and welcoming to me, my fiancée and two daughters. His home feels like an oasis and the pictures really don't do it justice. The scenic drive up shows you just how beautiful Puerto Ricos' mountains really are and just how simple and happy people live on it. The house itself and surroundings was spotless and smelled so good. The breeze was surprisingly fresh at night and the outside decks and barbecue area were a sight in themselves. We stayed here 6 days and were sad to leave. My toddler went fishing on the lake, we saw a horse across the lake, the fog rolling in, the view of the moon at night rising were breathtaking. The sounds of the campo really entrance you. My moms family is from the campo and we went every year as I grew up, so it felt like a home away from home in every sense of the word. The only downside would be that there is zero reception so be ready to be cut off from the world (no cell phone recept or wifi). However I did not mind at all as in my mind "vacation" means just that, but my teenager would beg to differ..lol. Also be prepared to pour on the bug spray, I was bit so many times I lost count. But then again that is what life en el campo is all about. Staying at the lakehouse was the best place we stayed at (we stayed in 3 diff places during our 17day stay) and driving into the pueblo every morning was a treat. La gente de Utuado son bien amable. I am beyond impressed with this house and would recommend it in a heartbeat. Thanks again Pedro !

Awesome Family Vacation! Beautiful!

5 of 5
I depended on the reviews for my choice in booking this house, so our family wanted to do the same! This was so much better than an all inclusive resort..it just gave us so much more in the culture and life in Puerto Rico. The house is nice, and the accomodations are more than adequate. BUT the big draw is the outdoor kitchen and the beautiful surroundings. We cooked outside most nights and even for breakfast. I used this site for many tips on where to go, what to do..so I feel it important to give the same information. Here goes: Carabali is very easy to find from the San Juan airport. We did have problems with the gate and getting in because it was very late. Hector rectified this quickly though and the rest of our stay was without a hiccup. We ate in Luquillo at the kiosokos, this is fun and should be experienced but the souvenir shopping is limited. The cleaner restaurants are numbers 1-33 or so. After that, the health codes don't seem to be met. But there is something for everyone there. The beach behind them was not one we enjoyed, it stank from dumpsters and had a lot of trash. There is a beach in Luquillo that is VERY nice and just a few more minutes up the road. We also visited Fajardo and went to the Seven Seas beach there. It was fun to see the locals and how they enjoyed a beach day. Carabali has the horse rides and we enjoyed these. The food in the restaurant there is good but a little pricey. Drinks are great. The kids ziplined up the road from the house at a place called El Yunke, they LOVED it and learned a lot about the rainforest. We went to Old San Juan one day. Take the ferry over to the Bacardi Factory, there is a restaurant right as you get off of the ferry that is very good too. Rich's up the hill by the Wyndham resort had a beautiful view and was the best meal we had in PR. We shopped at Amigo's for groceries (don't bother with Wal-Mart, it doesn't have produce or fresh meat) . The kids couldn't get enough of the outdoor sound system, pool and just being outside at the house. We went on an East Islander snorkeling cruise to Culebra, this was the highlight of the trip and is worth every penny. Culebra is breathtaking. Hector and Carmen were helpful with everything and very quick to respond with questions. We also went to Las Playlas in Luquillo for the natural slides, it was FUN beautiful amazing, and cheap! The house is perfect for all these activities, very central location! Teens loved it, adults too!
