Had another wonderful time time. Everything is very clean and the owners are very accommodating and helpful. Our second time here and hopefully not our last!

Peaceful, relaxing, comfortable living amongst nature and a warm welcome from locals.

An earlier reviewer suggested this house is "more camp than comfortable", and I must disagree. There is nothing campy about this house. I think cottage would be a better description. It is not luxurious, but it is comfortable, and peaceful, and relaxing. It is not touristy, you live amongst the locals and there are some very lovely and welcoming neighbours in the area. Some might say it could have been cleaner, but for my expectations it was no different than any cottage at the lake in Ontario. The A/C units all worked great, but most nights we let the tropical breeze flow in. Only a couple of really humid nights when we closed the windows and let the A/C keep the house cool. The view from the patio was awesome, with tropical plants and trees in the foreground, and the ocean in the background. The unheated pool below the house was 25C (76F) water temp and provided a refreshing dip on hot days and nights. But we spent most of our time on the beach. There are two outdoor showers, with warm water, for when you return from the beach. At the house, we spent most of our time on the ground floor which was an open-air living area, with a fridge, kitchen sink, a huge outdoor oven with 2 gas burners and 2 BBQ pits, a bathroom with shower, laundry machines, patio umbrella, 2 tables, several patio chairs, and wicker furniture. This is where we cooked and gathered for most meals and evenings, listening to the birds and watching the little lizards. The 2nd level had a good kitchen with lots of equipment, a full bathroom, two bedrooms, and a small livingroom area with TV/stereo setup. There was a small balcony off the front with great views of the area. Another balcony off the side had a long counter with chairs where we always ate our breakfasts outdoors. The 3rd level had 2 more bedrooms, one with a private balcony. Again, nothing fancy or luxurious, but certainly comfortable. Everything was in working order. Suggestion; get bags of oranges from roadside stands and use the electric juicer each morning - fantastic. We had one problem with the main door not closing properly, but Juan sent a locksmith the next morning to fix it. Julio was the caretaker who met us on arrival and was a great contact for us. We felt secure at all times here. A small store is just a few houses down the road. There are folding chairs and umbrellas and a cooler on wheels for the beach, or park the chairs at the top of the sea wall to watch the amazing sunsets.

Rustic, open air, outdoorsy

4 of 5
We read the unhappy review from February 2012 but decided to give it a try anyway. We were not disappointed. I think our experience was different due mostly to our expectations. Our two bedroom villa was like a tropical treehouse. Open to the breezes and yes, the bugs, lizards, chickens and other things. It is very much like camping but the location is great, the view is beautiful and the house is reasonably private but convenient to town. Yes the place could use some TLC and the kitchen is only marginally functional and the bathroom should really be remodeled but that being said, we had a nice time and will be back.
