Excellent accomodations and perfect vacation!

5 of 5
My husband, two daughters and I completely lucked out and found this rental for a vacation during Holy Week, the busiest tourist week for Culebra. The house was extremely clean and had everything possible that we could need, from a fully-equipped kitchen to everything you need for the beach, including chairs, coolers, Boogie board, and a smashball set. The house, and the deck, were so comfortable that the earliest time we ever left the house was near noon (despite having perfect weather and amazing Culebra beaches all week!). Also, the owners are incredible and wonderful hosts, and very responsive to inquiries and questions (they put us to shame as we've been renting our mountain condo on vrbo for 11 years!). Knowing it would be busy, Sylvia purchased and mailed ferry tickets to us and they provided us with the insider tips on where to go and eat. I highly recommend staying at La Romana (grudgingly though because it feels like one of those best-kept secrets that you hate to share!).

a fantastic Culebra home!

5 of 5
Erik and Nancy have a wonderful place! The house is in pristine condition, with all of the amenities necessary for a pleasant and easy stay on the island. The view from the porch is fantastic and provides a relaxing spot when you you have torn yourself away from Culebra's beaches and waters. Dick, the very personable caretaker for the property, lives across the street and is available to answer any questions. This was our fourth visit to Culebra and Caleta Tortuga was far and beyond the best lodging we have rented. We highly recommend it! As for the roosters and dogs mentioned by other reviewers: chickens and roosters run wild everywhere on Culebra - including all of the beaches. The crowing is an inescapable (and I think charming) part of the local color. Dogs are ubiquitous as well. A big part of Culebra's charm is its traditional Puerto Rican character. Be prepared to enjoy these rough edges that, hopefully, won't be sanded away by rapidly growing tourism

Perfect Location! Awesome hosts!

5 of 5
The owners go above and beyond. They really make you feel like you're guests. They can arrange to pick you up from the ferry and they're full of recommendations and information. Louis is a boat captain and can arrange outings and Raquel fills in everything else. You absolutely can't go wrong with these two. The only thing lacking in the boathouse is an interior sitting area but the outside deck makes up for that. It's very large, has a table and chairs and a hammock. We enjoyed our coffee outside every morning watching the chickens in the yard and sometimes right on the deck while planning our day. The inside has been complete renovated. The bathroom looks like a 5 star hotel including the towels. You won't find that anywhere else in Puerto Rico in this price range. We didn't cook at all while we were there so I can't speak to the kitchen but it seemed well stocked. All I needed was a coffee pot and it was there and coffee filters were provided. The boathouse was clean. The air-conditioning was a window unit in the bedroom that we left turned off all day and just turned on at night. It cooled the room in just a few minutes. I noticed one other person mentioned the airport across the road. I did notice it was there but never once heard a plane. Maybe because the air was running at night for background noise but I would assume it's such a small airport I can't imagine planes flying in too late or too early in the morning. We were only able to stay for two days and rented a golf cart to get around. The only negative about that is if you get caught in the rain. There is a windshield to put up and we carried $1 ponchos with us. The only time we got caught in the rain was coming back from the beach so we really didn't care if we got wet but it might have been a different story if we were heading out to dinner. When we made reservations here we had our choice of several different places on the island and we chose to stay here and we're very glad we did.
