a fantastic Culebra home!

5 of 5
Erik and Nancy have a wonderful place! The house is in pristine condition, with all of the amenities necessary for a pleasant and easy stay on the island. The view from the porch is fantastic and provides a relaxing spot when you you have torn yourself away from Culebra's beaches and waters. Dick, the very personable caretaker for the property, lives across the street and is available to answer any questions. This was our fourth visit to Culebra and Caleta Tortuga was far and beyond the best lodging we have rented. We highly recommend it! As for the roosters and dogs mentioned by other reviewers: chickens and roosters run wild everywhere on Culebra - including all of the beaches. The crowing is an inescapable (and I think charming) part of the local color. Dogs are ubiquitous as well. A big part of Culebra's charm is its traditional Puerto Rican character. Be prepared to enjoy these rough edges that, hopefully, won't be sanded away by rapidly growing tourism

Nice place to rent on the island

4 of 5
My boyfriend and I rented this house for a week. It was our first time staying in Culebra and we totally fell in love with the island. Linda was really easy to work with as far as setting up the rental and everything. We arrived and were met by Joan that drove us over to the house. The house is sitting on a hill facing the airport. The airplanes do make noise, as do the roosters and dogs, but its all part of island life. The house was clean and large, could fit a lot more people than just us. It was really nice having a pool, although there isn't a ton of privacy but its still very nice. The only complaints I have would be: the master bedroom shower didnt seem to have a lot of hot water at certain times of day. The house isn't very well equipped with beach things: ie: towels, beach chairs. Also, the bedroom bed was bare and my pillow was ripped up, so in that aspect I think some attention could be put towards nicer linens and towels. But with that said, the kitchen was very well equipped, air conditioning worked great and washer and dryer is always a plus. I would consider staying again if a few upgrades were met. Other than that, it was a lovely stay in Culebra and would recommend this island to anyone who just wants to get away!

Dream house indeed!

5 of 5
I have been coming to Culebra every year since 2009 but this was my first time at Casa Sueno, and my first time staying on that side of the island. Bonnie responded quickly to my inquiries on line. As promised, we were met at the airport and showed to the house which sits on a steep hill with dramatic views of the surrounding hills and bay. The house was impeccable, and the descriptions I read on the website matched reality. There were six of us and we never got into each other's way. The house is very open and breezy, with a large terrace that runs along one side (and where we spent most of our time while at the house!) The spacious living room, dining room, and kitchen all open to one another. The kitchen was well appointed with all the necessary utensils and equipment. The dining room table comfortably sat six, and the two living room couches (doubled as futons) were large and comfortable. A small hall led to a powder room and on to the large and well-appointed master bedroom and bathroom. The latter was especially enjoyable since it opened up onto the deck (but with total privacy!) with dramatic views of the bay and hills. Across a pebbled courtyard was a guest house with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom, all of which were tastefully furnished with care. The courtyard had a grill (which we did not use). There were 5 beach chairs and plenty of beach towels for our use. The house obviously reflects the owner's refined taste in furniture and interior design and I felt like I was staying in a real house as opposed to a cookie-cutter rental. Those who come to Culebra enjoy its remoteness and low key activities: snorkeling, swimming, boating and casual dining. There are no fancy resorts or cruise ships here. The house is conveniently located: just a few minutes from Zoni Beach, and a 10 to 15 minute drive to Flamenco Beach, Brava Beach and Dewey, the main town on Culebra, where the main restaurants and food stores are located. If you make a left from the house and walk about 30 minutes you will reach Playa Larga, at the eastern end of the island, with views of St. Thomas in the distance. One day we rented a boat from the most excellent Captain Sebastian and spent some time in Culebrita island, hiking to the lighthouse and snorkeling among the turtles. All in all, a most enjoyable vacation and stay at Casa Sueno. We will recommend this house to all our friends and family. It really was a "dream" house!
