Great choice for this quiet little island

4 of 5
We rented this fabulously sited house for 10 days in early December and reveled in the privacy, sweeping views, pool and spacious deck. It was perfect for our goal of relaxing in peace in between exploring the amazing beaches on Culebra. Each day we watched the cruise ships and planes buzzing into nearby St. Thomas and were SO thankful we were enjoying almost deserted beaches and hardly any traffic rather than congested roads and too many other people all around us. If you are attracted to the slower pace and fewer tourist attractions than other places offer, Culebra is a welcome change and a good place to have quality couple or family time together. This house works well for being away from the busier part of the island while still within a very short drive of the restaurants, stores and beaches. Not far to go! The property manager was helpful and responsive, the wifi worked well, and it was very helpful to have a phone at the house since our cellular service was absent. Very happy we chose this house and stayed longer than just a week. The 'bones' of the house are excellent, with a gracious design and spacious layout. It's not a new place by any means, and some repair and refurbishment are now due. Some floor tiles need to be replaced, pots and pans are older, furniture looks nice but you sink almost to the floor, and a few appliances are old enough to need replacement, such as the defunct blender. These are easily overlooked when you are sitting by the pool with a libation in hand and a 180 degree view, but the house could be truly amazing and more comfortable with some reinvestment. Zoni was our favorite beach, but we were glad to have done the relatively easy hike to Brava one day and would recommend that if you have the time. BIG waves and hardly a soul at Brava. Some of the directions make this seem like a difficult hike, but footing is generally good and it's never steep. You have to see Flamenco because it's so long and white, but Zoni is so much like having a private beach and so very convenient to the house.

Everything they have said is true! And then some!

Pura Vida is as wonderful a place as one could imagine. All the superlatives that other reviewers have used to describe this property are correct. One thing, however that the photos don't show adequately is the gorgeous landscaping of flowering trees and bushes that has no doubt matured since the photos on this site were taken. We were a party of 6, including me, my wife (in our 60's), our two daughters and their long term boyfriends (in their mid 20's). We spent a lot of time together, but the intelligent design of splitting the sleeping area from the living area into two buildings made it easy to have separate time, or to sleep or be lively early or late and not disturb others. We cooked a lot, and the kitchen is incredibly well equipped and organized. There is pretty much any pot or pan or utensil you could need, and plenty of silverware and glasses. Unlike some other rentals that get very cheap with things like dish soap or sponges, or decent brooms, the Steffens realize that folks will keep things cleaner if they have adequate materials to do the job. Thank you! The road to the house is fairly steep (worth every vertical foot for the view and the breeze!), but we rented two golf carts from Jerry's and had no problems, even with 4 on board. We've dealt with both Carlos and Jerry's and had great experiences with both, but Jerry's carts are a bit beefier. We did not do much nighttime driving, but if you have young ones who want to go into Dewey for nightlife, you may want to consider a Jeep, as the trip is @ 5-6 miles of fairly dark, narrow and twisty road. We had no problem in this regard when we did drive at night, but it is something to think about. I could go on and on about how beautiful Pura Vida is, the wonderful attention to detail and love the Steffens have put into the design and maintenance of the property, and how we wailed in sorrow when we had to leave. But, read the other reviews for a full picture! We fully, totally, completely recommend this property!! Thank you Steffens family. Thank you Manuel.

Caribbean Dream

5 of 5
I was looking for a vacation rental that would make the most of our stay on Culebra and I found it. The Villa is equipped with everything you need to enjoy the great outdoors- fishing, snorkling, kayaking and paddleboarding. My husband snd I travelled with four young adults and they always had fun things to do. The villa itself provided a comfortable, relaxing user-friendly place to call home for a week. The views from the house, deck and dock were beautiful. The outdoor shower was a special treat that everyone enjoyed. In the evening we would turn on the lights that illuminate the water in front of the deck and take in the sights and sounds of this very special place. The owner was extremely accomadating and a pleasure to deal with. If I'm fortunate enough to return to Culebra in the future I will not hesitate to stay at this Villa again. Gracias
