Nice place to rent on the island

4 of 5
My boyfriend and I rented this house for a week. It was our first time staying in Culebra and we totally fell in love with the island. Linda was really easy to work with as far as setting up the rental and everything. We arrived and were met by Joan that drove us over to the house. The house is sitting on a hill facing the airport. The airplanes do make noise, as do the roosters and dogs, but its all part of island life. The house was clean and large, could fit a lot more people than just us. It was really nice having a pool, although there isn't a ton of privacy but its still very nice. The only complaints I have would be: the master bedroom shower didnt seem to have a lot of hot water at certain times of day. The house isn't very well equipped with beach things: ie: towels, beach chairs. Also, the bedroom bed was bare and my pillow was ripped up, so in that aspect I think some attention could be put towards nicer linens and towels. But with that said, the kitchen was very well equipped, air conditioning worked great and washer and dryer is always a plus. I would consider staying again if a few upgrades were met. Other than that, it was a lovely stay in Culebra and would recommend this island to anyone who just wants to get away!

Simply amazing!

5 of 5
Seldom do you walk into a rental property and immediately feel the warmth of a home, but it happens at Pura Vida. There is an almost mystical aura of calm and peace that you will feel at once. The Steffens have put so much thought and love into this home, you will feel blessed to have shared it. The house is immaculate and very well supplied, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and separating the living areas from the sleeping area is genius! The views from the main house as well as the bedrooms are simply spectacular... from the turquoise waters to the ever changing sky, to the twinkling lights of St. Thomas in the distance. We watched the sunrise every morning over St. Thomas, and then were lucky enough to have a full moon rising over the same view at night! We spent hours in the rocking chairs on the porch, first watching boats come and go into the bay near Las Pelas, and then had cocktails and played dominoes in the cool breeze at night. You won't want to go to bed, except you get to get up and do it all over again! We visited the town of Dewey and got "Bushwhacked" at both Mamacita's and the Dinghy Dock, both awesome places full of Caribbean charm. But the highlight of our trip was our visit to Culebrita by boat taxi...snorkeling and hiking to a hidden beach that must be seen to be believed..We found paradise!! Don't miss Culebrita! Thank you Peggy and Carlos for sharing your bit of heaven with all of us. It has provided memories for a lifetime!

Great choice for this quiet little island

4 of 5
We rented this fabulously sited house for 10 days in early December and reveled in the privacy, sweeping views, pool and spacious deck. It was perfect for our goal of relaxing in peace in between exploring the amazing beaches on Culebra. Each day we watched the cruise ships and planes buzzing into nearby St. Thomas and were SO thankful we were enjoying almost deserted beaches and hardly any traffic rather than congested roads and too many other people all around us. If you are attracted to the slower pace and fewer tourist attractions than other places offer, Culebra is a welcome change and a good place to have quality couple or family time together. This house works well for being away from the busier part of the island while still within a very short drive of the restaurants, stores and beaches. Not far to go! The property manager was helpful and responsive, the wifi worked well, and it was very helpful to have a phone at the house since our cellular service was absent. Very happy we chose this house and stayed longer than just a week. The 'bones' of the house are excellent, with a gracious design and spacious layout. It's not a new place by any means, and some repair and refurbishment are now due. Some floor tiles need to be replaced, pots and pans are older, furniture looks nice but you sink almost to the floor, and a few appliances are old enough to need replacement, such as the defunct blender. These are easily overlooked when you are sitting by the pool with a libation in hand and a 180 degree view, but the house could be truly amazing and more comfortable with some reinvestment. Zoni was our favorite beach, but we were glad to have done the relatively easy hike to Brava one day and would recommend that if you have the time. BIG waves and hardly a soul at Brava. Some of the directions make this seem like a difficult hike, but footing is generally good and it's never steep. You have to see Flamenco because it's so long and white, but Zoni is so much like having a private beach and so very convenient to the house.
