We had a fantastic time at Alberto and Shannon's house! Perfect for our family of 8, and certainly could have fit several more people.
The property is absolutely beautiful, with picture-perfect views to the West for sunsets. We spent most days lounging by the pool, the area around the pool I think is much bigger than the pictures make clear. With as lush and green as the property is, I was surprised that there were no bugs whatsoever, which was great. Nice chaise lounges on a couple of different decks. One big space around the pool, then several other unconnected spaces, which gave the teenagers some space.
The beach down below is rough and beautiful... not really a lay-out-your-towel and sunbathe sort of thing, but great for the kids to play in the sand and for swimming. Pretty good waves, but not dangerous or anything, our 7 and 9 year olds had fun playing in the water, although we did keep an eye on them due to rocks at the shoreline. The water is clear and clean; no jellyfish, no dirt, no seaweed, etc. Put on some goggles and you can see some brightly colored fish swimming about, lots of the blue ones from Finding Nemo. (Note:
would be great to have a snorkel at the house!).
We went to Crash Boat beach (10 minute walk) one day, it was nice and fun, but the property was so great that we just spent the one day at Crash Boat. Lots of food vendors.
Jose, the property manager, was awesome and was always there when we needed him. He even called and ordered pizza delivery for us one night when we couldn't figure out how to tell them how to get to the house. One of the A/C units was dripping water, and in less than an hour Jose had a couple guys in replacing it.
Midday every day a nice lady would come in do the dishes, clean the kitchen, tidy the rooms, and wash the beach towels. Just like a hotel, it made a big difference as this was the first time we ever rented a house (as opposed to hotel or resort), and we weren't sure if we would end up picking up after the kids all day.
We also had someone come in to cook dinner one night (arranged by Jose): delicious, simple Puerto Rican food. Another night we used the brand new (and huge) grill to cook burgers. We ate most dinners at local restaurants, and typically had breakfast and lunch at the house (Boca Loca and Desecheo were great, we also had a fancier meal at The Eclipse which had beachfront dining).
It was a great family vacation. We hope to be back.
