Dream vacations

5 of 5
Fafarua Lodge is a tour de force. The team there gives their guests the chance to connect with Nature and its wilderness (breathtaking scenery, a huge and extraordinary lagoon) while providing quality amenities, comfort and services. All that in a place that could have been Robinson Crusoe’s own island. Eva and Patrick and their crew have a passion for their “motu”, the atoll and its traditions, and clearly love to share it. We spent two weeks there for a family reunion (three generations, 23 to 77 years of age, from the US and Europe). Each of us could go at his/her own pace, and choose between relaxing, fishing, diving, and discovering the surrounding marvels. Eva’s cooking was by all means a great experience. Each meal was a feast (various - and very fresh - fish of course, French Polynesian cuisine, but also classic French and North American meals). This was an extraordinary vacation that we will long remember.

Best memory of our trip to Bora Bora

5 of 5
After staying in hotels on Moorea and Tahiti, this bungalow was a welcome change, especially with the limited choices on the island for vacation rentals that are modern and updated. The owner, Ed, and his wife, have done an exceptional remodel of this place; and the proximity to town is good for shopping. When you arrive on island, you will be greeted by a local French couple, Christophe and Ginou; they are very gracious and helpful with recommendations on where to shop for groceries and dining. Although we never ate out the entire time we were there! The kitchen is incredible and provides everything you need to prepare your own gourmet meals. We considered staying at one of the hotels that are on their own motus, but we didn't want to be isolated, and wanted to feel at home with the convenience of a kitchen to prepare our own meals ( restaurants are scarce and the food isn't always very good), wifi for internet access, and laundry facilities which are hard to find on island, and often not even available at the hotels. The views are to die for, and there are all the comforts of home, including a grill. If you didn't bring gear for a day at the beach, they provide paddleboards and snorkeling gear, as well as bicycles in case you decide to set out for a day of exploring the island. We loved this place so much we plan on staying again and again for our visits to Bora Bora!

Truly Fantastic

5 of 5
If you want to have an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora and you do not stay here or at its sister property next door you are missing out on the best bargain in all of French Polynesia. This is a large, recently renovated overwater bungalow originally owned by Marlon Brando that is located on the northwest coast of Bora Bora (about 4 miles north of Vaitape) in an absolutely beautiful location. I do not even know where to begin. Large living room that transitions into a dining area and then a kitchen---a big kitchen. Full-size refrigerator, washing machine. incredibly modern four (or was it five) glass stove top, double sink, blender, coffee machine, microwave, toaster oven, toaster and all the china, silverware, glasses, pots and pans, etc. that you could want. If I could come up with a complaint it would be that the chef knives need to be a little sharper and there should be a bread knife. That's the best I can do. Two bedrooms. The master has a queen (or is it king) size bed and is air conditioned (The only room in the house that is air conditioned, but we froze to death before we turned the air conditioning way down.). The second bedroom has two twin beds and a REALLY good fan. The bathroom has double sinks and a huge shower with both a rain head and a hand held shower. And then there is the porch. Huge. A table and four chairs. Two lounge chairs. A day bed. A dock with a ladder that can be lowered so that you walk into the lagoon (which offers good snorkeling) and an outdoor shower for when you come out of the salt water. Oh, and a propane gas grill!!!! In the living room is a TV with a dvd for movies (selection quite limited but you certainly could bring your own dvds) and music. On the porch there were fishing rods (we left a nice selection of lures as our gift to the house), snorkels, masks and fins and some great tubes for just hanging out on the water. Missing. There should be some rope to tie off the tubes to the dock although they did have short tethers. No kayaks. We cannot recommend this property too highly!!!!! It is fabulous. For 1/3 what the resorts want for an overwater bungalow you get twice what they offer. Pick up groceries at Chin Lee's or Super U for breakfast and snacks (and whatever other meals you want to fix) and definitely have a meal or three at the Bora Bora Y
