As a general rule with birthdays and holidays, my husband and I avoid buying physical presents for our nieces and nephews, but rather, "make memories" by doing something together - whether a one-day, overnight or just evening event. When we found the "Good Ole Days" get-a-away, we knew it would be a great Christmas present for all of us...and boy, did we score big! The kids - ranging in ages from 8-17, were so delighted with this place and Melanie's special touches that when we went into Pittsburgh to see the city at Christmas time, we left early because everyone wanted to just come "home" and enjoy the place together. What did we do during the stay? Lived. John made my mom's "blue plate special" traditional meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans and had family dinner...we peculated coffee and made cocoa and told stories, rumpused in the rumpus room, listened to records...and had a great blend of Christmas and Festivas time - oh, and always love Gabriels which is just down the road.
My husband and I have traveled extensively, and we received some of the best hospitality from Melanie AND comfortable accommodations. We love that Melanie not only has honored her family in this way but has also given others a chance to feel a part of the memories - both hers and their own. We will be back...!
