Relax, Enjoy and Explore!

5 of 5
We are so glad that we found Villa Paraiso to stay at in Bocas Del Toro! The setting is the best in Bocas, the food was such a treat (thanks Wes and Angie), we had all the comforts of home and more! Talk about being pampered... with the beach so close - right out front- and the option to dive into our own very clean pool whenever we wanted to- so private! We felt safe at all times. We rented an ATV from the Pirates down the road for a week. That gave us the mobility to travel wherever and whenever we wanted to. Taxis were also an option that was easily arranged. We road all over the Island and rain or shine- we had a great time! The other must do is to hire a boat for a day- or two - in order to see the other Islands. We chose to hire a fellow named Capt Scott( highly recommend) who took us all around the islands for a day. We saw and learned a lot about the area. We even were able to purchase fresh live crab and lobster from a fisherman that we barbequed and enjoyed back at the Villa. We will be telling everyone we know back at home about Villa Paraiso, and Bocas del Toro! Thanks so much Cottrells! Your hospitality goes beyond expectations! We are sure to come back one day...

Nice getaway

4 of 5
We stayed in this Villa the last week in February 2015. Our goal was to snorkel and we did but we just happened to be there when the 40-day Humboldt current arrived so the water was sometimes colder and cloudier than normal. However, most days we could swim and enjoy the beach. The Villa was just like the pictures and the caretaker arranged the turn-around on Saturday between the prior renters who couldn't get the ferry until 3:30, and us arriving in the morning by plane. It worked out fine. We walked to the beaches each day and only rented a cart from the caretaker for one day to see the entire island and to go to dinner at Tortuga one evening. Driving home in the dark with the little headlamp on the golf cart was quite the adventure. The Villa is exactly 100 steps from the beach but there are landings and walkways in between so it's not difficult. We are 68 and 70 years old and we did fine. The plus side is the breeze from the ocean swoops up to the deck of this villa creating the most wonderful cooling affect on warm afternoons. We thoroughly enjoyed the deck in the mornings and afternoons but got chased inside by mosquitos about 5:30 each night. Tip: If anyone in your group is sensitive to bites, bring along mosquito repellent which you'll only need when you go out to dinner or you want to stand on the deck at night and stare at the stars. The wi-fi worked fine once we figured it out. The water on the island is not drinkable including in the villa. We made the mistake of buying a large flat of bottles - very expensive. We should have bought water in gallon jugs and bought just four bottles to refill. Both the information center and the dive shop (right next door to each other) will explain the best snorkeling spots. The folks at the dive shop were very helpful and we took one snorkel trip with them to the outer islands. The island went through a crazy building phase and now has some abandoned hotels and resorts. It's kind of sad walking past them to get to the good snorkeling spots. While we were there the filter and pump in the pool was broken. We never went in. We saw people go in the murky pool but it looked too icky for us. We did, however, really appreciate the outdoor shower next to the pool to clean off all the beach sand. Favorite Restaurant = Rincon but Gerald's was good and very handy. We advise you bring your own bar soap or body wash, and a small container of laundry soap. Dish soap is provided.

Beautiful Eco-house in Magical Setting

5 of 5
We love love loved Casa del Mar and the surrounding area! We really had no idea it would be so perfectly remote - what a treat having the bay as our front yard! We were truly delighted by all of the wonderful gear at the house. We so enjoyed the snorkeling gear, paddle boards, kayaks, etc. Jose and Erika were such wonderful hosts - it really felt like we got white glove treatment. And we enjoyed two rounds of massages by Alexia. We had two private day trips - one for snorkeling, Zapatillo and lunch; another for the bat cave and red frog beach. In addition to cooking in the house kitchen, we also had dinners at the Rana Azul and at Dolphin Bay Hideaway. It was lovely getting away from the city and cars for a week in paradise.
