We could not have been happier with our beautiful home away from home on our all too short trip to Portland. A gorgeous house, lovely yard and a great neighborhood. To be honest we were not sure what to expect when we arrived, but we were very happy with our arrangements. The photos in the listing do not do the place justice. A fantastic layout, nicely decorated (like one would expect any less from a designer) and a stellar book collection! Had all the amenities we could possibly need, full kitchen, washer and dryer. It nearly goes without saying that the house and property was very clean and well-maintained.
unfortunately the stretch of weather we encountered did not allow us to take advantage of the yard and west and east facing decks.
The location was great, smack dab in the middle of Portland and right between The Pearl and Alberta Arts District. Not that one should overlook the very cool Williams Ave. itself.
Don was a consummate host. His office was right next-door, though we only saw him when we arrived and the morning we departed. He did text me twice during our stay just to check in to make sure everything was going well and to suggest a couple of things to do on one particularly rainy day.
The bakery just on the corner was very good as promised. Don had left us an olive bread that disappeared very soon after our arrival. And my first meal was a deadly burger from the adjacent restaurant.
We would definitely stay there again and I have already mentioned to friends and relatives that, should they plan a trip to Portland, this place is a near perfect stay.
There were only a couple of minor suggestions the group had for Don. We were traveling with kids, so although all the dishes and glassware were very nice, they were not sturdy enough for the clumsy hands of those working on their fine motor skills, we hit a patch of rain and some house umbrellas would not have gone amiss and we had no idea how to work the TV/DVD set up (but really, are you on vacation to watch TV or drink amazing craft beer and visit with friends?)
All said and done, we can't thank Don and his beautiful home enough for facilitating an awesome Portland experience.
