This was our third time staying here and we plan to stay here again. The cottage is clean, well-maintained, peaceful, pet-friendly and has the amenities of home. The floral garden surrounding the property is tranquil and a delight to revel in at any time of day. The owners are friendly, easy to contact and very responsive to any need – they’ve provided an excellent array of DVD movies to enjoy, the television is of superior quality and there is open access to a very user-friendly game room and fire place as well. Internet access is seamless and high quality.
The surrounding countryside is impressive. Access to the beautiful Painted Hills Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument couldn't be easier. (And if you're into geology you should visit the Oregon Paleo Lands Institute in Fossil. The drive up and back is worth it in itself.) But don't make the mistake of thinking that's all there is to do. The area offers an extraordinary number of places to explore. The hiking in the Ochoco National Forest is fantastic and nearly endless. We stay for a week at a time but feel like we have barely scratched the surface. We’re already looking forward to getting back next year and staying for at least another week. Just as impressive are the Pats Cabin Wilderness Study Area and the Sutton Mountain Wilderness Study Area, each having numerous places to explore.
The restaurants in town do a good job of catering to food needs though the hours of operation can sometimes catch you by surprise so be sure to plan ahead before making dinner plans.
Overall, we think this is a wonderful place to stay and plan to make many more trips to the area with this cottage as our vacation home away from home.
