An early February winter's retreat afforded six couples a two-day opportunity to enjoy Tara's homespun comforts. Snowmen greeted us with cheerful seasonal accents throughout the tasteful, wine-themed décor. We explored the movie-stocked theater room, played pool, shot hoops, reminisced about days gone by with Ms. Pac Man and challenged each other to Ping-Pong tournaments. The wood-burning fireplace warmed the living room where we talked, napped, played Mexican-Train Dominoes, watched the horse in the pasture and (thanks to free Wi-Fi) attended to those few business details we hoped we'd left behind. The kitchen was a favorite gathering spot for chatting over coffee and group cooking. The huge island was the perfect place for buffet-style food service and the lazy-Susan on the round dining table made sure no condiment was inaccessible during mealtime chatter. Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave are only a few miles away and the hot tub/sauna experience after the hikes warded off the chill and released residual stresses. Consider, as we did, a wintry stay courtesy of the gracious and hospitable Tara Lodge for a peaceful and bucolic getaway.
