Tranquil, Fresh, Space, Luxury and Nature

5 of 5
This is a super stunning home with main rooms overlooking the ocean, great modern features, the staff headed by Hector and Lumi are wonderful and the home is picturesque, the sunrise and the sunsets at either end of the huge, mostly empty beach. The lap pool in natural tones blends straight into the sands and ocean. Beds and bathrooms decorated soft and earthy for comfort and style. Everything was easily arranged and we totally recommend this home for a holiday anyone would be happy and relaxed amongst beautiful art and lots of free space. 5 stars for cleanliness and lovely quality sheets and towels, kichenware, serving ware and decor

Gorgeous view from spacious, breezy deck

4 of 5
Getting to Casa Orquidea for the first time is slightly daunting because it's over a short stretch of unmarked dirt road to a steep cement driveway down, but you'll quickly get used to driving or walking up and down. The house is spacious, perfectly clean with a well-appointed kitchen that we used every night to cook fish fresh bought right off the boat -- if you're an early riser -- or a pescaderia in Puerto Angel. Roasted chicken from Pte. Angel shop is also a treat. My favourite space is the balcony running the width of the second floor outside of two airy bedrooms. Great for sunsets in the evening, shady in the day and usually breezy. The only drawback is the lack of wifi (very helpful, friendly owner Stacy has tried to get it, but no luck yet) -- but that might be a plus for some! It's fast and easy to get to Puerto Angel or Zipolite by road, but not as simple to walk to either if you want to stay off the highway, I found. On the highway, hailing a cab or collectivo is a snap. Overall, a strong recommend for visitors looking for a quiet, self-sufficient spot.

serene oasis!

5 of 5
Cynthia's casa is spacious and well-appointed, with lovely outdoor spaces. Her taste is impeccable. The kitchen is huge and laid out such that all 3 of us could work at once. I loved the two bathrooms in a separate building; although completely indoors I liked opening the doors and windows and feeling as if I was showering en pleine! There are so many gathering areas: 3 indoors (not counting the kitchen) and 2 outdoors! This place was a bit too big for our party of 3, but would be perfect for a family gathering or several couples! The 2nd floor bedrooms were lovely, spacious, and private. They are described as each having their own spiral staircases and this is true - however they do adjoin via wood doors which we kept closed for privacy. It is possible to open all of the downstairs doors and upstairs windows and enjoy the cooler air in the evenings! NO bugs at this time of the year. You will get some street noise and occasional yapping dogs. Cynthia's house manager Arturo (filling in for Soledad) was helpful, cheerful, and available. We did not ask for housekeeping services while we were there but did get occasional help from Arturo regarding minor household issues, and he came once to water the extensive gardens. The location was ideal: **2 blocks to the Escaleras de Fortin where we accomplished our morning exercise (218 steps, plenty of runners/stair-walkers even early in the morning). **3 blocks to Santo Domingo and the northern end of M Alcala, the pedestrian walk among charming shops, cafes, and vendors. **8 blocks to the Zocalo. Be aware there is currently no wifi at the casa, but wifi access (usually no earlier than 8 am) is available at cafes within 2-3 blocks. While having instant internet access may have been helpful regarding logistics ("who was that driver recommended on trip advisor?", etc) I think I benefited from being unplugged for over a week! Recommended: Tiernes Calabasitas at 802 M Alcala for delicious vegetarian food Boulenc on Porfirio Diaz for the broccoli sandwich and charming young owners in the kitchen! The Oaxacan Coffee Company (aka La Mano Magica) on M Alcala for coffee, chocolate, wifi, and wonderful art in the back room. (Say Hi to Remedios!) En Via tour Thanks Cynthia for helping us have a lovely first visit to Oaxaca!
